eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 1, 2006 Updated: Jun 2, 2006A nice amber color with just about no head or lacing. The hop presence was detectable in the flavor and aroma: grapefruits and other citrus hints, no substantial floral or pine presence. Flavor was supported with a nice malt background, delicate caramel, not too sweet, almost a bit dry tasting. Full mouthfeel, a very nice beer. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA May 28, 2006 Bottled. Beer was a clear, medium brown with a small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing head. The aroma was lightly malty with notes of husky toasted grain; hoppy with moderate-to-heavy notes of resin/pine and herbs; moderately doughy. The flavor was moderately sweet, moderately bitter with a long, lightly bitter finish. The body was light, the texture was watery and the carbonation was fizzy. Straightforward, hop-centric, a little doughy. Ok. csuders (30), Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA May 27, 2006 Nice amber color as the name suggests, has a carmel colored head. A hoppy beer, which isn’t exactly my thing, but its well balanced and a little sweet. A good ale. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA May 21, 2006 Small head. Rather dense and creamy on top. Very good carbonation. Thick sheet of lacing left behind. Nice hoppy caramel aroma. Little citrus. Color is a medium orange brown with a bunch of very fine floaters in there. Light malt flavor with a plethora of hops. Plenty of succulent grapefruit and orange. Hint of caramel again in the flavor. Finish is slightly dry with decent lingering bitterness. A very good amber ale. nolankowal (850), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 20, 2006 Pours a transparent amber with a buttery cream head that has ok retention. Getting some light pine and grapefruit...carmelized sugar, apricot, and rasin. The caramel malt and fruit elements come out more in the flavor all remining of the hop aroma is some suttle yet well placed pine. Sweet, moldy, and malty up front with a watery bitterness towards the back...finsihes malty and bitter and doesn’t linger for too long. Not a bad take on the style and would make a nice fall/winter session brew. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA May 15, 2006 Updated: May 26, 2006Bottle. Pours amber with a nice fluffy butterscotch head. Nice aroma of citrusy hops and sweet caramel malt. Initial flavor of caramel and toffee, with a nicely balanced bitterness. Great mouthfeel for an amber.Toasty and moderately hoppy finish, but not lingering. Solid, but I’d love to try this on tap. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA May 14, 2006 In the bottle. Outstanding! Pours a butterscotch amber with a bountiful off-white head. I find the aroma to be toasted and bread-like. Deliciously thick in body with an appropriate amount of hops to make this interesting, yet not overdone. Great complement of bitterness to accentuate the caramel toffee flavor. Easily my favorite so far of the Tröegs family.
