Commercial Description:
Troegs HopBack Amber gets its unique name and taste from the HopBack Vessel in our brewhouse. Packed full of whole flower hops, each batch circulates through the vessel, creating a fresh hoppy aroma, spicy taste and rich caramel note that defines this signature amber ale.

Secret Santa beer #4, sent by Jason (Dorwart). Ever notice that many of the top Ambers on the site stretch the style’s limits? This one is no different. Amber/dark orange body, thin clumping off-white head. Cerealy aroma with light caramel and earthy hops. Flavor reminded me of many American Strong Ales but with less emphasis on alcohol; sweet cereals and caramel played off the earthy, somewhat piney hops. I’ve had beers just like this that were classified as IPAs. That said, there are so many beers out there just like this one. I like a maltier Amber Ale.

[bottle] Pours a deep, clear orange with good carbonation and a lasting white head that left good lacing all the way down the glass. Aroma is mainly floral and hoppy with a tart sweetness underneath. Maybe raisins? Taste began with a sweet hoppy bite that gave way to a nice peppery hop finish. A bit spicy on the tongue at first, but the head mixes well and gives the whole thing a soapy and smooth feel. Thanks to Warrior for this one.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy copper-amber coloured body with a small white head. The aroma is fantastic for what apparently is classified as an Amber ale. It’s very hoppy and there is some caramel, yeast, and bread substance. Flavourful spicey hops and a nice resinous bite...finishing with a flavourful of sweet bread. Very good!

Had this on cask recently. It was very good. Nice and hoppy with a balanced malt character. Orangy color. Enjoyable to drink. I liked it.

Brilliant coppery peach. Fat, sticky, rocky off-white head. Sweet pine cone aromas adorned with a lush glazed malt base. Lemon oil, toasted nuts, graham, and jellied fruit whispers. Soft mouthfeel. Amply fluffy, creamy carbonation. Explosively jellyish right away with light acididity leaving a trail of piny hops and softly sweet malts. Hops become more peppery than piney at mid-stage and the malt toastiness fades into a rounded, flavorsome blend of passion fruit and spicy anise. Immensely minerally, round, bready finish with honeysuckle, jellied fruits, citrus, and hop leaf snippets. Pine notes and glazed, bready malts coat the tongue as they linger well past the finish. Impeccably balanced with a creamy palate, lovely foam retention, and delectable spicy hop/bready malt tandem. Absolutely luxurious. Thanks, boto!

Pours clear deep copper / amber with a sturdy light tan head. Aroma has smooth citrus hops and some sweet malt that is almost like peach. There are some floral hops in there as well. Medium body with a prickly feel due to the carbonation. Starts with smooth floral hops with some citrus, the lightly roasted malt associated with an amber ale, but the hops are dominant. The finish joins the other flavors with light piney hops. This is the hoppiest amber ale I’ve had as well as being one of the smoothest drinking hopped up beers. Excellent beer.

A rotten fruit laced floral piny aroma, a little scary. Transparent iced tea appearance. Also has an iced tea, tea froth head. Fruity hop bite. Of course the hops are the main feature here. Small amount of creamy carbonation. wants to be an IPA but never quite gets there. Citrus rind flavors build thru the session. Dirty hop spring water finish. Will not buy again. Get’s a seven overall only because it is troeg.
