Commercial Description:
Troegs HopBack Amber gets its unique name and taste from the HopBack Vessel in our brewhouse. Packed full of whole flower hops, each batch circulates through the vessel, creating a fresh hoppy aroma, spicy taste and rich caramel note that defines this signature amber ale.

poured into a pint. pours a bubbly red copper amber with good white head. sweet hoppy aroma. smooth malty front with sweet hoppy backgrounds to a light finish. not much bitterness from hops, but sweet lingering aftertaste. good, yet more aromatic than flavor from the hops, light and sessionable.

Tasting @ Capone’s: Poured a dark amber color with not a lot of head. The aroma was that of dirt and hops. The flavor had some sweetness like caramel with a nice balance of hops. Over all of our favorites at this tasting.

From a 12 fl. oz. bottle with a bottled date of 012209 and a number of 090107. This pours a nice looking amber-orange with lively carbonation that rises to a two finger, foamy beige head. The aroma is hoppy all the way, almost like an IPA. Perhaps some background fruity element. Medium mouthfeel with good texture. The flavor is hoppy and sweet all at once and rather unique. A bitter finish. Yum-Oh.

I’ve been drinking this all the time lately. I love the smooth, thick, dry mouthfeel and the toasted chocolaty flavor. It’s got just a light bitter hoppy note that comes through in the finish deliciously.

Pours cloudy amber with a small off white head. Malty aroma with hints of fruity hops. Taste is smooth and earthy. Nice malt with subtle hops. Well balanced. Great amber.

Copper, off-white head with good lacing (as far as I could tell in the plastic cups at the Capital City Brewing Festival). Light hop aroma with balanced malt character. Moderate Bitterness from the front to back. A little thin bodied.

aroma is excellent balance of citric hop notes and hefty caramel backup. appearance is tarnished amber, yet translucent. flavor is chewy caramel with hop backup, an equal balance in opposite terms via the aroma. well balanced amber that still qualifies despite strong hopping.

Light amber color - medium white head. Piney aroma. Flavor is lightly sweet with crisp hops and a bitter finish. Quenching and flavorful, moreso than most plain amber ales.
