COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Troegs HopBack Amber gets its unique name and taste from the HopBack Vessel in our brewhouse. Packed full of whole flower hops, each batch circulates through the vessel, creating a fresh hoppy aroma, spicy taste and rich caramel note that defines this signature amber ale.

Hand pump at Standard Tap in Philadelphia. Very flowery hoppy aroma, citrusy. Fairly balanced sweetness with a medium body, lots of grapefruit hop (cascade?) flavors. This being on cask, it had that full, yet slippery texture.

Super creamy and spicy. So much complexity in the flavor profile. Reminiscent of an excellent British ale, but more hops and more oomph. I’m actually more impressed with this than the Nugget Nectar. Flagship beer!

Bottle. Poured a cloudy copper-amber color with a finger and half width beige head. It’s very hoppy and there is some caramel, yeast, and bread substance. Aroma is a little sweet, caramel, grapefruit. Taste is sweet, citrus, grapefruit, caramel...finishing with a flavorful of sweet bread.

A nice deep red color with a thin off-white head. Sweet notes dominate the nose. I detected a sweet sugary maltiness in the aroma, very faint caramel, and even a bit of citrus. This beer is lightly sweet at the beginning with a touch of bitterness at the finish. There is moderate carbonation and thin medium body This is one of the most balanced beers I have had and it was a pleasure to drink.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Reddish, golden-orange color. Off white head that died down quickly. Nice, hoppy aroma with pine and floral notes. Crisp bitterness but well balanced. A good all around brew where hop flavor and aroma are featured.

Wow.. aroma is fantastic! Maybe one of the best aromas from a bottled beer- sweet malt and fruity hops. taste was a bit of a letdown compared to the aroma, but still good. Caramel malt and bready/toasty at first, finished by a fairly firm bitterness for an amber (although, I suppose, not for one named ’hopback’, but nonetheless I wish they backed down by a few IBUs).

Medium brown-amber with a good, tall beige head. Aromas of nuts, toast, grapefruit, and malt. Medium bodied, with a well-gauged amount of carbonation. Flavors are lively, dry but not drying to the palate. Bitterness is restrained until the finish. A well-rounded brew for hopheads.

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2007 Very enjoyable Ale. Beautiful amber color! Almost perfect blend of malt and hops, however I’d prefer a bit more hops and a tad less of the caramel malt flavor. I definitely would recommend this and look forward to trying it again soon.

An excellent beer, period. Very hoppy and malty as well. Slight notes of caramel, maybe some spice. Well done Troegs!
