COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
JavaHead Stout, first released as Scratch 15, contains a blend of locally roasted espresso and Kenyan coffee beans by St. Thomas Roasters in Linglestown, PA.

This recipe is based off of our original 2005 oatmeal stout. After the boil the hot wort passes through our hopback vessel packed full of whole leaf hops and a bed of coffee beans - akin to a French press - intensifying the coffee nose and releasing hints of coffee flavor. The result is a lush oatmeal mouthfeel balanced with cocoa, roast and subtle coffee flavors.

The body is a milk chocolate brown, and it pours with a medium. creamy looking head. The aroma is rich and sweet, but not too much so. There’s kind of a latte smell to it that I liked, but it might have been what my mind decided to detect, given that there’s coffee in the brew. The flavor is nice, kind of a bitter coffee bite up front and then a very smooth finish. It’s not a complex beer, it kind of plays it’s whole hand in the first few sips, but it is a winning hand.

Pours pitch black with a one finger tan head with decent lacing. Aroma is of gourmet coffee/espresso, chocolate, lightly roasted malts, caramel, molasses, vanilla, and some sweet malts. Taste is of very nice coffee, dark and milk chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, molasses, and sweet malts. Has a medium-full body with a creamy mouthfeel and a semi bitter, medium-long, coffee filled finish. Overall, a tasty coffee stout that would be nice with breakfast.

This is a nice big coffee stout with tons of roast character without being overbearing. It is gorgeous in the glass, deep garnet brown with a thick and long lasting brown head and lacing in sheets. This has fairly mild nose but a nice creamy texture and rich coffee and chocolate one you taste it. It is just slightly sweet which highlights a slight tart cherry note which works well and compliments the coffee and roast grains nicely. It finishes with firm, cocoa-like bitterness and leaves a lingering creamy sweetness on the tongue. If you as are inclined to like big stouts, especially coffee stouts, give this a try. It’s a great take on the style.

12oz bottle from a fantasy baseball win. Pitch black ale with a small, very creamy, light brown head. Espresso and chocolate nose. Well-balanced, rich and very flavorful. Sweet, chocolatey flavor up front, then bitter, burnt espresso grounds and charcoal. medium-bodied with a light mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

"high expectations, so just a bit of a letdown for a good brewery and a favorite style. tasty but a little thin. definitely one dimensional. ok, maybe two...sweet coffee and bitter hops. that’s it. not bad, but coulda been a contender."
