3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2014/08/15 - Pours a hazy golden/straw colour with a large, soapy, white head that dissipates slowly without lacing. Aroma is biscuit & caramel malt, yeast, cloves, mild alcohol, and esters of banana, bubblegum and apple. Taste is sweet caramel, yeast, apple, stonefruit, clove and sweet alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium to full, slightly sticky with lively carbonation and a warming, boozy finish. Pretty good, would have been better if it were a little less sweet.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
375 mL bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Hazy yellowish-orange pour with a frothy white head. Aroma of Belgian candi sugar, bread, and lemon zest. Nice balance of flavors with bubblegum, ripe banana, tangerine, Earth, and Belgian yeast. The finish is somewhat dry and bitter but certainly not unpleasant. Nicely done.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Thanks, Chris. Bright, radiant yellow body; hazy. Huge, volatile brilliant white head, super foamy & chunky. Aroma of mint, bubblegum, soft bread, clove spice, a little sweet fruity esters. Spicy flavor; lots of clove, Belgian spiced yeast, grass, herbal notes, big-time white peppery blast. Dry, little bit of bubblegum towards the finish, it leans toward medicinal but never fully gets there. Slightly phenolic. Very slight banana & apple skin fruitiness. Overall, a pretty enjoyable tripel.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Single bottle from Leary’s in Newburyport. Poured into a snifter. Huge white meringue head. Settles to a thick lace. I’ve let this settle down a bit and warm up. Fruity-yeast-spice aromas. Flavor is nice. Light malts, fruity yeast with more hoppy bitterness than most triples. Surprising at first, but OK after a while. Interesting.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A gorgeous triple ale that cloudy just like it should be. Pours a deep amber all cloudy from a 12.7 oz corked bottle that delivers that strong Belgium ale aroma at just whiff. I could drink this one all night - and I just might! This is my first venture with Tröegs and I am delighted and impressed. Cheers!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cork & cage bottle to English pint glass. Pours hazy yellow gold, two finger head, little lacing, awesome retention. Aroma of wheat, faint clove and banana. Taste is fruity sweet, nice funky sour from the yeast. Full bodied, highly carbonated, fizzy mouth feel. Finishes quite dry with notes of wheat, lemon zest, herbs and yeast. Very nice example of the style yet different from the Belgians of Europe but in a good way.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Expectation: again Troegs baffles me. I like the style and thought to try the style - no real expectations other than based on the ratings
Hardware: 12.7oz undated bottle into Le Watou
Nose: spicy bread with lots of yeast. Fairly wheaty overall
Sip: wow! earthy and caramel with complex flavors
Taste: balanced but the spiciness wins!
Misc: reminds me of a Unibroue with the funky yeast
Conclusion: a pleasure to drink. a sipper. A fine beer as well as a great example of the style. Glad to have tried this and will recommend it to those who like the style.
