3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2014/08/15 - Pours a hazy golden/straw colour with a large, soapy, white head that dissipates slowly without lacing. Aroma is biscuit & caramel malt, yeast, cloves, mild alcohol, and esters of banana, bubblegum and apple. Taste is sweet caramel, yeast, apple, stonefruit, clove and sweet alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium to full, slightly sticky with lively carbonation and a warming, boozy finish. Pretty good, would have been better if it were a little less sweet.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
375ml corked bottle, thanks Christina! Spicy Belgian yeast aroma with apple and pear fruity esters as well as grass and straw character. Pours cloudy golden colored with a thin white head that has very little retention and decent lacing. Starts with spicy Belgian yeast flavors as well as some fruity apple and pear notes. Finishes smooth with a slightly bitter note with grass and straw flavors. Finishes a bit off, but a nice Belgian overall.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled Sept. 3, 2015, consumed in Feb. 2016: Clear, deep golden. Gentle pour generates a voluminous cap of sticky and persistent foam. Quiet but clean aroma of German noble hops, uncured hay, Russian sage, pepper and melon. Prickly carbonation. Opens with a juicy push of bright flowery hops coupled with slick fruity esters tempered by a warming alcoholic glow. Malt is nice and polished: grassy and haylike. Spicy hop bitterness stimulates saliva and underscores the clean fermentation. Quite luscious hopping, combined with ample residual sweetness, causes the lips to smack. Well balanced lilac and haylike pils malt comprise the graceful, mellow finish. It’s nearly impossible to find this style brewed to tradition and without being severely underattenuated and/or a banana bomb. But Tröegs has done very well here (same with the dubbel). If they just sprinkled in some more phenols, I wouldn’t complain. I am surprised to find that this shows no signs of oxidation and is still quite vital after seven months in the bottle. That said, I’m very much looking forward to a fresh bottle!

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12.7 oz bottle. Hazy orange brown with a snowy white head. Nose is yeast, toffee and dough with hints of citrus peel. Oily medium body with fizzy carb. Not sure why I keep trying tripels when I rarely find one I like. Figured I’d give the home state folks a shot for my 60th. Taste is cloying orange bubblegum, green leaves and overripe peaches. Long filmy finish with cardboard drying. Yup, it’s a tripel.

Pours hazy apricot with a white head. Aroma presents fruity, dusty and nutty tones. Strong flavor features fruity, malty and hoppy notes, while body is firm and fizz is strong. Nothing "grave" about this!

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 7/20
I just tasted this one on one with a westy and it actually is not that much worse. From a corked bottle. Golden with a slight haze and lots of sediment. Bitter up front and a tad citrusy. Very good co2 prickles the palate. Aroma is just plain good beer. Could use a few more manners. Ye s, the finish leaves a bit of an astringent aftertaste.

Heed the bottle’s warning: pour it slowly and carefully. Everything about the beer is above average, but it leaves just a hint of aftertaste that isn’t as smooth as the rest of it. It’s a very good beer from a cool little brewery, and I’d drink it again.
