3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Transfer from BA review on 7-10-13-
Served on tap in a chalice glass
Appearance – The beer is served a lightly hazed copper color with a one finger creamy white head. The head fades rather fast leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- The aroma is big of lighter fruits, consisting mainly of apple, and pear. Along with these aromas are some crackery and biscuit aromas as well as some yeast and spices of coriander and nutmeg.
Taste – The taste begins with a fruity and crisp flavor of apple and banana along with a lightly roasted malty and biscuit flavor. Up in the front of the taste there is also a decently strong showing of some candied sugar as well as a bit of honey (even though I know there is none, it still has a slight honey flavor) As the flavor advances yeast and spice come to the tongue with an intensification of the candied sugar flavors Even at 8.5% abv not too much of an alcohol taste works its way onto the tongue, and with a light floral hop flavor developing late in the taste one is left with a clean and crisp fruity flavor to be left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium to slightly lighter side for a beer of its strength and style with a carbonation level that is big of tiny champagne like bubbles. The exciting carbonation and thinner body are quite nice for the sweeter and yeastier flavors of the brew and make for a very nice drinking brew which is rather dangerous in concert with the low boozy taste on the tongue.
Overall- A nice take on the original, and about as enjoyable. A very strong Belgian dubbel like feel on this one. It is well worth a try if you can find it.

Tap at the brewery. Pours clear amber with a small, fizzy off-white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is caramel and cookie malt, dates and Belgian yeast esters and spices, figs, nutmeg and Candi sugar. Flavor is sweet malt dominant, medium spices and dark fruits, light hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours clearer translucent amber with a beige ring for a head. Aroma is too light, sweet Tripel yeast. Flavor is similar to Mad Elf but less sweet and cherry flavor is more subtle obviously. Sweet malts, light cloves and esters on a cleaner but full body. Perfect for Christmas in July.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
So.. it smells like a Tripel but is quite dark. Mad Elf is killer so lets see where lil’ brother is. Bottle from Mari’s. Pours amber with very little head, quite carbonated. The aroma has a on of bananas, clove, spices, sugar, light booze. The taste is a bit sweet banana but does have a hell of an alcohol warmth for such a low ABV beer. OVerall, pretty solid but really aggressive on the finish.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Brownish pour with slight head. Yankee version of a Belgian triple. Tastes like fruit punch was added. Not balanced at all. Flavors clashing. Nice train wreck if you care to experience.

A: pours reddish copper with excellent clarity and no head production, leaving a mirrored surface. No lace.
S: Belgian yeast, sweet grains, some banana esters and coriander notes. Nothing special.
T: Some alcohol tones over the coriander and grain. Yeast is strong and the mid-palate is sweet as can be.
M: Medium-light body with hi carbonation. Semi dry finish. Wish the carb was a little more subdued.
O: Pretty standard example of the style. Nothing fancy. Better than the seasonal offering.
