COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Naked Elf takes a hard look at the less-is-more theory. Ever since we developed The Mad Elf, we’ve speculated what it would taste like without the cherries and honey. So what lies beneath the fruit? Naked Elf is unfiltered, so the spicy yeast taste is more prominent in this strong, hazy orange ale. The combination of the Pilsner, and Vienna malts give a lot of body and minimal sweetness, but Naked Elf has a dry finish. Finally, the heat of the alcohol makes its presence known in the finish. The Naked Elf’s finest quality is the delicate balancing act between a lively yeast kick and a slight alcohol note that lingers in the back of the mouth—constantly reminding us not to overindulge in this complex, warming elixir.

Had this on tap at Bocktown for their Christmas in July. Great choice. A- Medium reddish brown body with thin off-white head. Great hed retention. The Red hue gleams in the light. S- Very warm smell. Belgian spices hit the nose first followed by a touch of belgian yeast and some fruitiness. T- Big delicious spicy taste. The spicy yeast is definately the most notable taste here. Nice balance with sweet malt. Spiciness lingers on the palate until the next sip. The taste is a good balance of spicy and sweet. P- Medium carbonation and medium weight body. Goes down smooth and easy. O- Great beer that is reminiscent of the Christmas season. I really enjoyed it and I will have it again whenever I find it. 12 oz bottle as Scratch 21. Pours a slightly hazy bright copper with a thin diminishing head to nothing. Aroma is sweet- honey, candy sugar, syrupy, mineral, floral, orange zest, pez, toast. Flavor is sugary dates, green raisin, honey, floral and grassy hops, mint, and light prickly phenolics all around. ok.

Bottled as Scratch 21. Poured slightly hazy, honeyed orange with a short-moderate cap of beige head. The aroma picked up a very sweet base of caramel and bready malts (almost like honey, but this was supposedly sans honey).. banana and a rich array of fruits were laced throughout.. touches of earth and vanilla as well.. just too sweet. The flavor found caramel, toffee, and fruity notes on the candy-like sweet core, with banana, white pepper, and cardamom over there.. more earth and peppery spices over honey-like character on the back-end.. long, warm finish. Medium-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. way too sweet, and that wasn’t even enough to properly mask the boozage.. spicy and hot at the end. I didn’t care much for this.
