stefanje (936), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Feb 26, 2009 12 oz bottle courtesy of Freddy. I was purchasing some Hop stoopid from him and he threw this in as a freebie. Thanks man. Pours a translucent copper color with a small off-white head. The aroma is strong with hoppy pine resins. The flavor is overtly hoppy with biter pine, caramel and citrus are way in the background. The mouthfeel was just a touch watery. The finish was long and dry with lingering biter pine. Overall: A very approachable IPA, provided you love biter IPA’s. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Feb 26, 2009 Enticing aroma of hops, mainly earthy, piney. The appearance is true to the style, an attractive orange color with an off white head. The flavor is very hoppy, piney hops mainly, some citrus, with the slightest bit of caramel maltiness. The finish is actually a little sweeter than the flavor, with a taste of caramel, then a segue into an oily, piney hop bitterness near the back of the throat, which endures. Good representation of the style. The truly great IPA’s however, are a careful balance between sweet and bitter, which this lacks. They also tend to have more of a variety in the types of hops in the brew (citrus, pine, floral, herbal) than this does. Still enjoyable. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 26, 2009 courtesy of kiefdog.
pours amber with white head.
Aroma of fresh pine hops
Taste, very hoppy light citrus / grapefruit notes with bitter finish and warming alcohol.
Interesting IPA, a little too bitter for my taste.
fredandboboflo (1392), East Setauket, New York, USA Feb 26, 2009 Bottle. Aroma of oily, citrus hops, some wet dog. Flavor balanced between bitter hops and semi-sweet malt. The aroma had some encouraging notes, but with the wet dog and the relative boredom that ensued in the mouth, can’t say I get the hype with this one. Above average, sure, but not special for me. rallison (113), USA Feb 23, 2009 Beautiful beer. Thank you DIM for 3 more bottles of this nectar!
Super hoppy, herbal and slightly dank in the aroma. So, so good. I just want to keep smelling this beer.
Taste is a perfect balance of juicy hops that lean toward neither citrus nor pine, but walk that line nicely. Caramel body provides just the right sweetness. More hoppy than bitter, but a pleasant bitterness level is present.
Finishes refreshing with a pleasant lingering bitterness. Extremely drinkable.
Excellent beer. JAXSON (229), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 23, 2009 Huge, amazing aroma bursting with pine and some citrus pulp. No need to repeat the hundreds of other reviews, other than to point out this is just a great example of the style. beerater (16), Dayton, Ohio, USA Feb 23, 2009 I am a hop head and this beer was right up my alley. Has a smooth and slightly sweet taste that complements a big creamy smooth dose of hops. They call it an Imperial amber, which I think gives a pretty good description. I’ll bet this beer costs alot to brew and it shows. If you like IPA’s, you’re going to like this beer. I drank it (and the five others) out of a frozen pint glass. Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Feb 23, 2009 12 oz bottle brought over from the east coast to be consumed by me in San Fran. Probably the most disappointed I’ve ever been by a beer, this one had been getting hyped up all over RB and BA and it just didn’t live up to it for me. Messy pine aroma, it smells somehow sticky if that even makes sense. Strange earth and pine flavor with a citrus bite that makes it too sweet for my tastes. Hopefully I’ll get another chance at this sometime to see if my opinion changes.
