BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Feb 11, 2009 Mighty tasty, highly drinkable IPA that is definitely resinous; like chugging Pine-Sol, licking the sap off of an evergreen, and chewing on pine-tar. Aroma is predominantly ripe grapefruit, lemon zest, and Redwood. Copper pour produced only a small white head that left an average amount of lacing. Medium mouthfeel...one I would pick up often if available. Salvatorberi (5), Delmar, New York, USA does not count Feb 10, 2009 2009 bottle into a 12 oz Sam Adams tasting glass.
This beer looks, smells and tastes like the hype. Especially the latter. The flavor profile is simply unreal. The finish is not terribly harsh in bitterness but cleansing and dry on the malt side but the hop stickiness is just plentiful and amazing.
I expected to be let down by this beer, but it is absolutely worth the effort in every which way. blklab2007 (932), Connecticut, USA Feb 10, 2009 Updated: Feb 20, 2009fresh bottle poured a medium amber color with a thick off white head that laced down the glass nicely. aroma has an initial blast of citrus hops, grapefruit, pineapple, caramel malt, and floral sweetness. all about the tasty hops so far. mouth feel is a hefty medium with great full coating and plenty of carbonation. flavor kicks in with the hop blast but a good dose of malt meets it head on. floral, medium bitterness, and a long resiny finish. so drinkable and tasty. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Feb 10, 2009 Bonus bottle from JB175. Thanks Jason! May have had this a touch cold, but it’s unlike any IPA I think I have had. Dark color, dark hop flavor, afternotes are very lacto. Made me think of a chicken and cheese burrito the first few sips, right down to the dry powderiness of a tortilla. Very pungent, very unique. Gabler (86), , New York, USA Feb 10, 2009 Excellent IPA. Great, intense hoppy nose. Pours orange/amber, sufficient head. Suprisingly well balanced flavor. A very nice representation. nickd717 (1266), Palo Alto, California, USA Feb 10, 2009 12oz bottle from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in DC. Also on cask at Blind Tiger in NYC. From Harrisburg, like me (sort of). Golden-amber appearance with a nice white head and good lacing. Aroma of sweet malts, floral piney hops, and maybe even a little of the "wacky weed" if you know what I’m saying. Flavor is pure heavenly Nugget hops blended perfectly with sweet caramel malts. Medium palate, a little syrupy. Very smooth. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Feb 10, 2009 bottle from Matt, thanks a ton for this! Pours gold and orange with a clear body and heavy lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, passion fruit, and fresh guava. Very, very bright and fresh . . . beautiful! Flavor has wonderful citrus hops, without getting lost in too much sweetness. Finishes with refreshing bitterness and excellent balance. Alcohol is completely hidden. Palate is light on the tongue – again, remarkable given the ABV. Although the flavor was a touch thin through the mid-palate, Nugget Nectar has so many stellar attributes that it seems silly to nitpick. Amazing stuff from Troegs. dagimp (104), Philly, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 9, 2009 From the bottle into a pint glass. Pours a dark amber with 1-2 fingers of head with a lot of really cool looking lacing! Smell is well balanced hop/sweetness. Taste has all sorts of depth. It’s not a hard core hoppy beer as I thought it’d be. But actually it’s really well balanced between malt and hops, but more towards the hops of course! Mouthfeel is really smooth and oh so drinkable. The depth of flavor really got me for this beer. If you can get your hands on it, drink it.
