3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours clear Amber with an ample finely foamed off white head. Aroma is nicely balanced; tangy. Notes of caramel malt and bright sweet citrus fruit. Taste brings forth piney cascade hops, with less fruit but a decent malt backbone. Slight tart and astringent. Bitter finish and aftertaste. A very good IPA.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle@home, from Wine Spot, Cleveland, USA. Strong pungent aroma of slightly sweet red berries and fruits. Amber/golden color with small white head and clear liquid. Medium/strong taste of slightly sour, over aged berries, hops and some malts. Slightly unbalanced with medium/wide taste spectrum and long hoppy and fruity aftertaste. Medium/light body with medium carbonation. Overall, bold though bit stale. A bit more red berries and this would be a very good imperial amber ale.

Small can shared at the hotel. Pours a clear strong golden with a small white head that leaves some lacing. Nose is of pine, alcohol and citrus. Taste is moderately sweet and bitter offers caramel, bread and fruity flavors. Body is medium, carbonation moderate and alcohol is felt a little bit. Old school but still pretty nice.

Can, into a Belgian ale glass. An impressive effort by Tro(funny stuff)egs. I’m sure they’re aware that our keyboards don’t support the umlaut. I guess it gives them some teutonic cred? Anyway, a fine brew. Pours amber, with a decent head. Fruity and hoppy aroma is followed by a similar taste, with a mildly bitter finish. A superbly crafted beer with a remarkable balance. Well, this goes on my list of go to brews, except that as a seasonal it commands a higher price (at least locally) than my other tried and true regular IPA’s. Good effort from the umlaut brewery.
