NomDeBeer (397), Maryland, USA Aug 31, 2008 Clear light amber color, small white head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is floral hops and pine needles. Flavor has a sticky caramel and sap-like sweetness, plus citrus hops. Great body and palate. Not as bitter as I expected, very smooth finish. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Aug 28, 2008 Clear amber with a viscous tan head, nice lacing. Great aroma is spruce sap, wet kona bud sweet leaf. Medium body with a creamy soft mouthfeel. Big bittersweet hop oil, sappy, sticky sweet spruce, with citrusy orange riding an awesome, sweet caramel amber ale base. Imperial Amber Ale indeed, and a regular in my fridg. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 27, 2008 Updated: Aug 29, 2008Much thanks to MaltOMeal for this beer!
Pours a rich orange amber color with a small white head. Awesome pine and floral hop nose. Flavor is very hoppy with some tropical flavors (mango, pineapple) as well as floral, peach and ending with a bit of pine. Malts are there enough to give this beer some weight....and a great mouthfeel. I love this beer and would drink it daily if I could get it. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Aug 23, 2008 (Bottle) Thanks to Goldorak for sharing. Pours a lasting thin foamy white head and a orange amber. Nose of solid pine hops. Decent malt, good tart hops with fresh leafy base. Very fun. tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Aug 23, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with superb beige head. The aroma is dominantly mandarin orange, with several other citrusy-hop tones mixed in, and just a little bit of woody caramel. The flavor is a smooth, light caramel sweetness with a ton of citrus hop flavor (orange, pineapple, lemon, peach). The bitterness is subdued--though definitely present--and the focus is on hop flavor. The finish is some piney bitterness that lingers for a while. This is some tasty beer, right here. thickfreakness (130), AUSTIN, Texas, USA Aug 18, 2008 Tasted on 4/28/08. Thanks to HopDerek on BA for this one.
It pours and looks like an average amber ale with a nice one inch head that lasts for about 5 minutes. The smell is almost pure hops, piney, grapefruit, and a little bit of floral hop smell with a little bit of caramel malts sneaking through at the end. Taste is similar to the smell but even more balanced than the smell led me to believe. Nice and hoppy with a respectable caramel malt backbone. I could drink this one all the time. Oh, I also wanted to add that this is definitely one of my favorite labels of all time.
StFun (535), Indiana, USA Aug 11, 2008 Updated: Jan 8, 2009Bottle thanks to GMCC2181! He wrote me a while back, asking if I’d had this yet, and I drank it soon after, but just now entering the rating. Very nice mix of hops in this one. A great creamy texture, with a bitter hop punch, and piney notes in the background. Great malty backbone as well. Has a nice thick mouthfeel. Feels stronger than 7.5%, but it compliments the brew almost perfectly. This is a great IPA and was a really nice beer. Thanks Gabe!! Bockyhorsey (2483), Mesa, Arizona, USA Aug 10, 2008 12oz bottle courtesy of Sparky27. Real good pine and floral aromas hit the nose. Copper body with off white head. Spiderweb lacing left on the pint glass. Good citrus orange flavor, sugary and mild bitterness. A dryness lingers on the palate. Overall a good beer glad you gave me one Eric.
