dkachur (2313), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA May 3, 2008 Bottle from Market Street Wine Shop, downtown location, Charlottesville. Pours a light copper color with a medium sized head. Understated but well balanced aroma. Taste is a nice hop profile with a sweetness balancing it at the front of the tongue. A little chewy. Nice. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada May 1, 2008 12 oz bottle from a trade with franksnbeans. pours hazy orange with a medium tan head that lasts and lasts. perfect IPA appearance. aromas are a little quite but citrus hops are the main focus. flavours are nice and hoppy but the malts leave something to be desired. somewhat watery in the finish. a middle of the road IPA. dlovell2 (136), Columbia, Maryland, USA Apr 30, 2008 This is a delicious brew. The name is fitting. Amber color. Great hop aroma. Lots of hop, grapefruit flavor. ironchefscott (341), portland, Oregon, USA Apr 29, 2008 smells very citrusy and has a nice balance of hop and malt flavors.......after a bit though the hop flavors tend to fade a bit and loses the hop punch that I love in an ipa.......though I have to say for an east coast ipa......goood stuff GAManiac (1120), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 28, 2008 Poured a deep reddish amber with a small but dense head that dissipated fairly quickly leaving a decent lacing on the glass. Wow! Big time piny hop smell with some floral and citrus undertones. Truly wonderful smell, like walking through a pine forest. Not surprisingly, the piny hop bitterness hits first but is balanced by a nice fruity taste which lingers a little until the hoppy bitterness finishes off the job. Extremely well balanced. Full bodied yet crisp with a very smooth aftertaste. I really enjoyed this one and it’s very drinkable. I could definitely have a few of these in a sitting. obguthr (986), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Apr 26, 2008 Pineapple and grapefruit aroma with more of the latter. Clear amber pour with a medium to thin yellow head, nice lacing. Grapefruit and pine needle flavor. Grapefruit peel finish. Good strength and balance, a hophead’s delight. The attraction is not in the quantity of hops but in the quality and selection. Lothore (276), California, USA Apr 26, 2008 A- Pours a golden amber hue, completely clear with some carbonation visible. Small, white, fizzy head.
S- Smells like a typical red except hoppier. Very strong malt presence with piney in your face hops.
T- I usually don’t dig red ales but this one really grows on you. The malt is what dissuades me but the sheer hoppiness of this brew completely overpowers it in a good way. Definitely could be called Imperial red ale. Sweet bread character comes out a bit as it warms.
M- High amount of carbonation and about medium viscosity.
D- This is definitely a hop bomb but it does it in a way that makes you love it. I don’t find myself wanting another one right away but it was certainly delicious while it lasted. hapjydeuce (763), Del Mar, California, USA Apr 23, 2008 Bottle. Holy hop baskets! Wonderful biscuit aroma with tons of juicy grapefruit character, light cocoa powder and crystal malt. Ginger spice and lemon pepper as well. Thick and malty flavor that starts toasty and ends with bittersweet and drying tannins. Really good! Clear amber color with appetizing head development and lacing; this looks like it poured right from the tap. Long lasting cheek-biting, green finish. Nicely balanced overall. Great stuff, I could drink this everyday!
