dmtroyer (407), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 11, 2008 12oz. Pours orange to copper with a nice white head. This struck me like a glass of orange juice. Good bitter and citrus fruits that do well with acidity and a blast of hops on the finish. Surprisingly drinkable, I could see this being a daily drinker. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Feb 9, 2008 Beautiful copper color. Very cedar-like slightly metallic aroma. Hint of sweetness in the flavor is scrubbed clean with the spicy hop finish. BrewmeisterEd (59), USA Feb 9, 2008 poured a beautiful orange with minimal head. Aromas of pine and grapefruit. Taste was very balanced - extremely drinkable. After taste lingered a lot less than many of the hoppier beers I’ve had. I had a 12 oz bottle, but would definitely buy if I saw on tap. Good brew joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA Feb 8, 2008 12oz Bottle
I was lucky to get a six pack of Nugget Nectar sent my way thanks to Kempleton. Nugget Nectar has a crystal clear polished copper body. Moderate streams of carbonation rise to the surface supporting the pillowy head. A one finger creamy white head appeared on the pour and stuck around for the remainder. This is without a doubt a good looking beer.
When I stick my nose in the glass Nugget Nectar makes my mouth water. There’s a fair amount of toasted malt in the background but more importantly there’s a boatload of hoppiness jumping out at me. The hops are mostly citric but there’s some resinous hoppiness sprinkled throughout. The nose is alive with orange and apricot. A great candy-like sweetness.
The flavor follows in stride. Big sweet juicy citrus from beginning to end. There’s enough mlt in there to keep the hops from running away but it’s holding on for dear life. Although there isn’t a huge amount of bitterness the tongue certainly feels the hop load. Very nicely done.
The body is spot on for the style. Medium body with a moderate carbonation that creates a soft creaminess.
A very citric flavorful beer. An easy drinker without a doubt. The alcohol is no where to be found but at 7.5%, to use a too commonly used term, this is dangerously drinkable.
Nugget Nectar is one of those beers that’s right up my alley. Big citric hoppiness with the loved tongue numbing element. It’s too bad this isn’t available in my area.
2/3/08 ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Feb 8, 2008 Thanks to mwelsh13. Earthy and floral hops in the aroma; peaches; a bit sweet; a bit of alcohol. Taste provides some strong, clean bitterness, again w/ earthiness and flowers; some sweetness going along nicely w/ alcohol to give it a rich feel. Palate is too thin, which is surprising as the aroma made me think it would error on the side of too thick and sticky.
santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 4, 2008 Imperial Amber? Whatever. Minus one for you, Troeg’s.. I still love ya though. Smells like peaches and grapefruits, with undertones of lemons and oranges. Juicy, citric, almost acidic hops attack the palate. And I like it. A nice caramel and grainy base rounds the flavor out well, and it finished quite bitter with sweet chocolate and grapefruit flavors. A very tasty beer that even a non-hophead, such as myself, can enjoy. Very similar to Hopslam, just not as delicious. CharlesDarwin (1821), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Feb 4, 2008 On tap at Zeno’s Pub - State College, PA. Illustrious aroma, loaded with magnificent soaps of bergamot and grapefruit, backed with bold minty leaves and glorious hop cone sugars. Damn, this smells great. Terrific aroma, that has amalgamated into just an incredible hop nose like none other. Not bready, but floral, tropical and bold. Great. Pours in a coppered-amber, with a long silky whitish lace. Flavor develops a different, unique character. This time spiciness and muskiness blow through on wooden ships. Quality. Fresh and glowing. There’s no coarse bitterness, just effluents of really fragrant, fresh hop cones. Heavily drinkable and carrying a delicate hop presentation. Malt lags lightly, but it doesn’t matter with this hop presentation. Finishes on a swirl of spiced delights, all middle eastern. All around a hop winner for terrific execution, flavor, and lack of killer bitterness. Yum, BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Feb 4, 2008 Updated: Feb 5, 2009Bottle thanks to franksnbeans. Pours a light copper-amber color with a moderate off-white head that left some decent lacing. Nice spicy, resiny hops with some citrus in the aroma as well. Sweet, slightly citric malts upon entry lead into a slightly bitter, semi-piney hop presence with a bit more citrus. Bitterness ended somewhat abruptly, which seemed a bit weird. Finish is semi-sweet, body is nice though. A dang nice IPA that isn’t overly bitter, and pretty flavorful.
