Commercial Description:
Squeeze those hops for all they’re worth and prepare to pucker up: Tröegs’ newest single batch brew, Nugget Nectar Ale, will take hopheads to nirvana with a heady collection of Nugget, Warrior and Tomahawk hops. Starting with the same base ingredients of our flagship HopBack Amber Ale, Nugget Nectar intensifies the malt and hop flavors to create an explosive hop experience.

Bottle. I waited a long damn time for Troegs to distribute to Ohio. I’ve had this beer several times now. Amber in color with a thick white head. Pretty strong aroma of hops and citrus. Flavor is similar, with a bit of malt to back up the dry bitter hops. Nice finish too. They label it as an amber it, but we all know the truth. It’s a red IPA! And a good one.

Pours murky amber with a thin beige head that dissapates quickly. Aroma leads me to believe that the bottle is old with mostly a dull pine and metallic aroma. Taste is like piney dogfood, very dull and I know it is actually way better fresh. Will try to get a good bottle and rate again.

Hoppy. Caramel. Fantastic aroma. Great flavor. Bit of amber. Some sweetness. Lovely IPA all around.

On tap at Rattle ’N’ Hum (NYC). This hoppy beer rocks. Flavorful and crisp with a very smooth finish. I just can’t get enough. Like a true IPA it’s strays a little on the bitter end, but this beer is one of the most flavor-balanced ales I’ve ever tasted. #035 on 30062009, DG.

bottle and tap. one of myfirst IPA I’ve ever had that started my love for IPAs. Pours a golden color was a nice white head. The smell is of flowery hops and oranges. The taste is of citrus and hops not nearly as strong as the stuff I like to drink now it is very nicly balanced the first time I had this I was overwelmed with the bitterness but now when I drink it it’s very balanced and flavorful

Sixer w/ the bro. I would say this lives up to the noise I’ve been hearing. Assertive but crisp, balanced but flavorful. Just a great beer.

Hmm, I’m slightly apprehensive about this one. This is in the Top 100 on BeerAdvocate and also highly rated on RateBeer. However this also includes a HUGE hop hand grenade that appears to me to be a warning that this will take off a limb or otherwise damage me. I am not a hophead. Let me repeat this confession for all to hear: I AM NOT A HOPHEAD. The last beer I tried that featured a large hop on the label was like being taken to an Entmoot and having Treebeard & his woody chums encircle me and piss in my mouth. The last thing I wanted was another piney golden shower. Pours a very appealing amber and has a more subdued aroma than I thought it would. A good sign! There is a piney taste but not one that conjures images of evergreen fellatio. Well balanced. The lacing remains forever, like it’s etched into the glass. Oh, my beer is gone. I really wish I had picked up a six pack. I’m surprised at the 7.5% on this, I could drink this all night. This is a February seasonal release and one I will be certain to pick up in the future. If you don’t like hop overload beers, give this one a try if you can find it.
