vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Jan 23, 2008 Thanks to xmarcnolanx for helping me get a couple bottles of this IPA. Pours copper / amber with a beige head. The aroma has pine and grapefruit hops as well as candi-like toasted amber ale malt. Smooth medium body that has a smoothness as first then it dies down with carbonation mixing in to give it a pine needle feel. The flavor starts very bitter with lightly abrasive hops, lots of dry pine shining through. There is some sweet malt, but it is mostly hidden by the hops. The finish has some resin and harsh dry hoppiness. Very nice IPA. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 22, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours orange/amber with creamy white head, good lacing, but quickly dissipating. Pine and citrus nose . . . . hoptastic. Taste is bitter, but not overpoweringly so, with resiny pine and floral hops, citrus hop finish. Very drinkable IPA, This is pretty much a kicked up version of Troegs Hopback, which is awesome. Tasty brew. ReademNwheat (174), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 21, 2008 Updated: Mar 1, 2008From a bottle. Pours a very uninteresting amber color. The Aroma however is great. Huge pine aromas and alot sweet citrusy hops come through. More sticky piney hops in the taste and end with juicy citrusy sweet hop taste. This is a great IPA. Very drinkable...even better than drinkable I would consider it gulpable...I need to get some more of this stuff while I can. tunneler (112), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jan 20, 2008 Heavenly hop aroma, a little sweeter and fruiter than many IPAs. The hops used really set this apart from other excellent IPAs (in a good way). The body is solid and make for a great beer all in all.
Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Jan 20, 2008 Updated: Jan 25, 2009March 2006 - Pour was little head or lacing and mild citrousy aroma. The flavor was very citrusy...like a sweeter pink grapefruit. Mouthfeel was thick and sticky and the flavor was a very well balanced citrus bitter and sweet. I liked it.
January 2009 - The original description still fits the bill, but I’m bumping my numbers up. Rich and malty yet puckering citrusy hops. If you are digging citrus, sweet grapefruit/orange, this is it, baby! Way too drinkable at 7.5% and all that flavor, too. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Jan 20, 2008 12oz bottle. Thanks to Eaglefan538 for this brew. Pours a brilliant, somewhat clear, orange color with very little white head. Smells pretty awesome. Nice and clean, sweet hop smell. Just a hint of greenery in the nose and a touch of citrus. Tastes hoppy sweet, a bit grassy. Really complex hop flavors, many layers. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Drinking this at 8am on a Sunday, damn fine brew. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Jan 19, 2008 Courtesy of DIM on BA. Thanks!
Pours a clear amber with a big cream colored head. Smell is brimming with hops and bursting out of the glass. BIg fresh citrusy, grassy, and earthy aromas. Creamy mouthfeel with light carbonation and a smooth flavor. Hops are nicely balanced with the malt along with a zesty, spicy twinge at the end of the swallow. Moderate bitterness, and a bittersweet creaminess make this more drinkable than I imagined it’d be. Definitely a great, and sessionable IPA. xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Jan 18, 2008 Aroma is huge amounts of piny hops with touches of some soapy citrus. Hops overwhelm the aroma and get me a little happy in the pants with this one.
Taste is initially slightly harsh and alcoholic. I definitely get notes of an amber malt base. The more I drink this however the more the alcohol diminishes and a biting citrus/pine bitterness stings the palate instead of the alcohol. Slight malty sweet backbone provides just enough body to make this interesting.
Overall, a very solid IPA, not my favorite of the style, but damn good.
I am also getting a lot more juiciness out of this one now. This is getting better and better!
