dogfishho (172), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA May 23, 2007 After a few months of age, this poured a nice copper color with a thin, white, large bubbled-head. The aroma is pure hops, but they have some quality that muddles them and makes the aroma smooth and pleseant. The flavor is interesting. Sure, there’s the trademark grapefruit hoppiness with some very herbal, piney notes played against a sublty sweet malty background. Along with all of this, though is a very fleeting mint note that makes the whole flavor profile much more intriguing than your dime a dozen IPA. The alcohol is not strong and the whole, very balanced taste finishes nice and clean. Overall, it’s worth the wait for it’s once-a-year release. mlist55 (210), media, Pennsylvania, USA May 23, 2007 Copper, with a nice foamy, soapy white head. Piney, junipery herbal aroma. Hops and malt seem to hit the tastebuds at the same time, so bready notes are mixed with spruce, caramel with pine, resin and citrus. Nice beer. mreusch (713), Olathe, Kansas, USA May 19, 2007 Bottle, courtesy of Immy (thanks!), pours a clear light amber with an off-white head. Aroma of hops; citrus and pine, and maybe a bit off. Flavor is a mild bitter bite, but not much flavor comes along with it, a bit watery on the backside. Palate is medium, but thin. Not offensive, but just okay. JensenTaster (1585), Denmark May 14, 2007 (Bottle, shared by Beermouth, thanx) Golden-yellow, clear and no head. At the tasting we al agreed; the aroma was the one of a cat-litterbox,mixed wih caramel. Soft mouthfeel, although the powerfull bitterhopping apears rather early and dominates into the very metallic finsh. Unbalanced brew. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA May 12, 2007 Bottle. Assertive hop nose, minor crystal malt. Cat piss like flavor, overly bitter hops, ugly malt background. Don’t like this at all. Suttree (2699), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 11, 2007 I misread my notes and thought it said "Nugent Nectar" Now, regardless of how one feels about the Motor City Madman, that is just a disturbing image. Copper, with a nice foamy, soapy white head. Piney, junipery herbal aroma. Hops and malt seem to hit the tastebuds at the same time, so bready notes are mixed with spruce, caramel with pine, resin and citrus. Nice beer. Thanks to Springslicker for this one! Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA May 9, 2007 Clear golden amber color. Citrus hops, canned peaches and cut grass on the nose. A vague chlorinated urinal scent on the back end. Tastes of sugared grapefruit, bitter herbs, some pine resin. Smoked wood and sourness in the finish. Aftertaste retreats too quickly. Medium body, quite smooth, maybe just slightly watery. Not the best example, but reasonable. Thanks Jason! SamuraiArtist (292), portland, Oregon, USA May 3, 2007 Bottle from jb175: First, this beer says its an Imperial Amber on the bottle not an IPA, Cheapdarks review before mine seems to be on the basis of this being an ipa. On to the review: Pours a golden amber color with low carbonation and a nice carmel malt and fresh hop aroma. Flavor is malty but also pretty bitter for an amber but a little less than an ipa. Has a great floral fresh hop like flavor. Best amber i have had.
