jtw (942), farmington, Michigan, USA Apr 13, 2007 Updated: Apr 14, 200712 oz bottle courtesy of adrian! yet another beer i have been looking forward to, especially considering its excellent reputation. it leaves a cylindrical coating of lace around the glass despite a smaller-than-average head. few bubbles escape the pale amber liquid, but those that do cling immediately to the small amount of foam on top. hops are the forefront, with some earthy, musty, lemony aromas and flavors domination. in the background is malt, and its only purpose seems to be to prevent this beer from puckering up your lips. purebred hops in this beer, and it doesn’t have to punch you in the face like many IPAs and IIPAs. this beer easily rivals two hearted ale. wheninhell (485), louisville, Kentucky, USA Apr 13, 2007 Thanks Immy! clear orange amber with a nice white head that leaves good lacing. jucy orange hop aroma. nice balanced flavor. bittersweet. nice and fruity orange pineapple. nice bittersweet finish with a nice hint of lime. medium to almost full body with a silky smooth mouth feel. very nice IPA. my notes dont do this beer justice........i guess i will just have to drink it again..........very nice. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Apr 12, 2007 12oz bottle from MrBendo. Aroma: Pine, resin, deep grapefruit, and spicy hops. A touch of cat piss, as well. Some light bready malt behind all them hops. Appearance: Dark amber in color and clear. Off-white head was medium sized and foamy with good retention. Nice lacing. Flavor: Bready malt, Spicy, resin, pine, and light citrus hop flavors. Bitterness is assertive and a little rough. Finishes very, very dry. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: I like the fact that they didn’t go with the same hops we see over and over in American IPAs. A very different hoppy beer experience. Good stuff. drewbeerme (2224), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 12, 2007 Updated: Feb 10, 200812oz bottle. pours clear pale-amber with white head. nose is loaded with PNW hops, piney and grassy. flavor just isn’t that bitter (freshness unknown), some piney hop (almost juicy) flavor, along with toasted biscuit. carbonation is a bit fizzy. alcohol is well hidden. this bottle wasn’t quite bitter enough so i’ll have to re-rate some day, but this was still tasty and fun to drink. GG (1609), NorCal, California, USA Apr 12, 2007 Why can’t these guys just label their beer an IPA? I mean...an Imperial Brown? This is about as far away from a brown ale as you can get. A really nice beer here. A prominintly hoppy nose with a strong emphasis on grapefruity hops, but the piney hops are also present and it’s carried by sweet caramel hops. Appearance is a nice dark orange/amber color with a good one finger off-white head. The beer has a very pleasant balance between hops and malt, but it does have this underlying astringent factor, however minor but still there. At any rate, if I think about this beer in terms of a Brown Ale, it’s out-of-this-world good. In terms of an IPA (which it is) then it’s an above average IPA. Nice stuff. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Apr 11, 2007 12oz bottle. Filtered and honey gold. Finger of bone white head. Total hop nose. Spicy piney sweet candy hop aromas. Full bodied and sticky. Bitter peppery hops. Rather lively. Nicely malted for the style. Touch of bready malts. Sticky with a full hop spectrum profile. Citrus and floral. Bitter with touches of candy sugar. Good alcohol kick. Nice balance within the spectrum of hops. Well done! RoboHop (21), Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 7, 2007 Not a bad brew. It has a unique, hoppy flavor. But, it seemed a little weak. It’s flavor signature reminded me immediately of the more strongly flavored Hop Wallop from Victory Brewing. Unfortunately for Nugget Nectar, stronger is better. BREWMUSKCLES (1062), New Jersey, USA Apr 4, 2007 Updated: May 9, 2007i would say it is an ipa all right. there’s an astringent burn to it. although the flavor is good and different (which i appreciate) it kind of reminds me of that la choffe ipa from belgium. one to get used to.
