Pours a two finger white head that fades slowly, leaving a good lace. Nice crystal clear amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Piney nose. Flavor is piney hops, grapefruit but some sweetness, this imperial pale has 93 IBUs but it is nearly balanced with the malt making it much better than the usual pale. $6.20 for a 22oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

Small tan head, retention is fair, lacing is somewhat coating and sticky. Clear light amber hued ale. Nose is welcoming with pine, lesser grapefruit and faint malt notes. Body is medium and a touch resiny, lightly oily. Nice hop flavors backed by some lightly sweet malt notes, berrys and some earthyness as well. An almost dry under bittered finish. I know i,ve rated this before, last year i do believe? Had it on tap at home along with several cases i,d gone through. Not sure where the rating went but i do believe it,s gettin a lower score this time. Probably closer to what it really deserves IMHO.

Why can’t these guys just label their beer an IPA? I mean...an Imperial Brown? This is about as far away from a brown ale as you can get. A really nice beer here. A prominintly hoppy nose with a strong emphasis on grapefruity hops, but the piney hops are also present and it’s carried by sweet caramel hops. Appearance is a nice dark orange/amber color with a good one finger off-white head. The beer has a very pleasant balance between hops and malt, but it does have this underlying astringent factor, however minor but still there. At any rate, if I think about this beer in terms of a Brown Ale, it’s out-of-this-world good. In terms of an IPA (which it is) then it’s an above average IPA. Nice stuff.

Simply wonderful beer! I’m not even a hophead, but after sharing one bottle with my wife, I have stockpiled three cases to ration out until next year’s release. I must say that this beer is best immediately after bottling. I have noticed that the hops (while remaining extremely present) do lose some potency as the months progress. Beautiful color, amazing aroma, fantastic flavor, and a hop-tastic finish!

Bottle thanks to machfive55. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. The aroma, man it’s been a while since I had a hop bomb like this; super sweet hops, mostly citrus notes. Sweet and intense hops in the flavor, full and juicy and citrus-like. The mouthfeel combines with the juicy nature to produce a soft and full flavor and mouthfeel. Like grapefruit served over a melting orange sherbet. No alcohol at all noticed, an awesome beer.

I managed to miss out on last year’s release of this one, so it was nice to grab some as it was being put on the shelf. Nice looking orange-amber color with a lasting head. Sweet, piney-floral hop aroma. Sweet upfront, with a rush of sticky-sweet pine & grapefruit hops rushing over the palate. Sweet malts help to balance things out and make ’NN’ very tasty. Very smooth, finishes very nice. I’ve always been down on their Hopback ale, which isn’t always profound enough, but this is really good. Not touted as an IPA, but an "Imperial Amber", this one really takes strong, hoppy flavor to the next level. well done!
