Squeeze those hops for all they’re worth and prepare to pucker up: Tröegs’ newest single batch brew, Nugget Nectar Ale, will take hopheads to nirvana with a heady collection of Nugget, Warrior and Tomahawk hops. Starting with the same base ingredients of our flagship HopBack Amber Ale, Nugget Nectar intensifies the malt and hop flavors to create an explosive hop experience.

While the brewery considers this an "Imperial Amber Ale" RateBeer considers it an IPA due to the hopping rate. There is no need to send any other corrections on the style.

Pours a sexy orangish-red with a minimal head that dissipates quickly. Aromas are lighter than I’d expect but reminiscent of a west coast IPA. Flavors are nicely bitter from the hops with some "sweeter" citrus flavors leading to an aftertaste that is quite bitter and just a touch of malty-ness. The mouthfeel is nice and thick, thicker than some IIPAs with a slight sticky-ness. Overall a super solid beer, as an Imp. Red fan this hits all the right spots.

Love this beer. It's the best amber ale, IPA, and brown ale rolled into one! Every winter, keep your eye out so you can get it while supplies last ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear amber with low white head. Aroma of pine, light caramel, lemon and grapefruit. Taste is medium bitter with a lightly fruity finish. Light and smooth body with soft carbonation.

Bottle @ home. Clear amber golden color, full sized white head. Aroma is malts, hops, lightly strawberry jam, lightly floral. Taste malts, hops, again a sweetish hint of strawberry, but also some caramalt and malt bitter. Decent to medium body and carbonation. Hmm a little disappointing, or perhaps I just don’t like this hop - combination. Label says "an explosion of pine, resin and mango", but I didn’t get that unfortunately.

DATE: April 17, 2016... OCCASION: celebrating the first day of grilling and the Cavs’ first playoff win--fifteen more to go... GLASSWARE: Barley Creek pint... APPEARANCE: crystal clear dark copper amber body sits squarely below a thick, creamy white head with sincere staying power... nice stratified lacing, paralleling as a sunset might... AROMA: the nugget releases strong floral, resinous aura while the tomahawk releases a bitter, orange peel/pineapple... PALATE: at 7.5ish% ABV, more than palatable--one could see why Troegs tried to call this an Imperial amber, as the back end suggests a maltiness that clips its bitterness and enables swift sipping... medium-bodied and "easy," with a slight pill at the teeth and a mellow movement to the throat... TASTE: an earthiness grounds a complex profile, with orange, pineapple, mango and soft fruits eliciting the lion’s share of attention... malts are sweet bread and caramel... a combination that is mellow, reasonably weighted, and balanced... OVERALL: a lot to like about this one... after having heard so much about it, I had no fear of being let down, but rather a feeling of hop-head conflation... into the second bottle, an aromatic, resinous experience--can stand up to or next to the many illustrious IPAs out there... another win from Troegs....

Clear copper red color, pepper and herbal or floral aroma, tan head that dissipates quickly, sweet honey, lemon, malt / toffee flavor, medium body, bitter but not overpowering, more of a red ale or imperial red ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pour a clear bright amber orange with a white foam head. Aroma is citrus and pine and medium malt. Taste is a good balance between strong citrus hops and strong malt support with a nice bitter bite. Big flavorful IPA bordering on an imperial. Troegs best brew.

From the new attractive can. What has happened to this once marvelous hoppy beer? The overly sweet malt completely hides any good hop flavor. Once aggressively sought out, this was likely my last one, unless they return to the old recipe. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bottle @ Jungle Jims / Cincinnati OH --- Aroma of malt and citrus. Clear medium orange amber with lots of effervescence. Thick 2" ivory head, lots of lacing. Taste is strong malt that is in cahoots with strong citrus hops. Both elements move smoothly through a medium carbonated swallow to a long satisfying finish. Really solid big IPA. May be the best of Troegs’ offerings.

Pours a bright orange color with a foamy white head. Notes of massive orange and pink citrus, with brown sugar and a fat malt backbone. Really well balanced and integrated.
