Pours a bright clear orange with a fluffy one finger off-white head, good retention. Full complex citrusy hop aroma with a slight fruitiness and an underlying toasted malt and toffee base. Complex and multi layered hop profile jumps out at you with the first sip. Bright and hoppy, very fresh tasting, but not overly bitter. The malt base is definately in the background but some does peek thru. There’s a little and pleasant alcohol kick in the finish. Medium bodied with a slightly creamy mouthfeel. The carbonation could be a little finer. Had they bottle conditioned this it would have added alot. Overall, a really good beer, in fact the best beer from these guys yet. Keep pushing the envelope guys! surffisher (196), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA

Pours clear amber-orange with a nice stand of off-white head which leaves sticky lace. Aroma is all pungent citrus (grapefruit) and piney hops with just a bit of honey sweet malt in the back. Bitter but nice hop forward flavor. Dry but very flavorful with a good malt backbone for balance. Moderately high prickly carbonation, medium full bodied, and smooth. Very nice hop-fest/big IPA beer. Nose is freakin’ hops! Jesus it’s like sticking your head into a feed bag full of hops. Nose is juicy and fruity with a nice spiciness. Flavor is much the same as the nose, with a nice malty sweetness. Not as bitter as you would think considering the smell. Damn tasty, and freakin’ aromatic. I could turn this into potpouri! Aroma - Fresh aromas of Northwest hops are all over this, citrus, pine, spice, etc. There is an initial blast of caramel, but it steps aside quickly to allow the hops front stage.
Appearance - Clear, deep amber pour with a with a creamy, off white head that settles quickly, leaving a nicely patterned lace in it’s wake.
Flavor - The citrus rind hoppiness is well balanced by a healthy dose of caramel malt. Bitterness builds into the lengthy finish, but isn’t harsh.
Palate - Medium body and carbonation, somewhat resinous, sweet malts coat the palate initially, but the bitterness leaves a dry, pleasing finish and clean mouthfeel.
Overall - This is a well crafted, balanced, and very enjoyable beer. cthulu81 (29), Woodbridge, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2007 IMperial amber? Of that claim, I am a little wary. After all, in the glass this concoction seems to be almost a wee bit lighter than its lil’ sibling, the Troegs’ Hopback. Oozing out of the glass is a wonderfully floral aroma of hops and a lightly sticky malt background. Do I detect honeysuckle and hibiscus? I thinks I do. For an ale labeled "imperial" this sucka’ is a tasty, tasty session-style for me. The body starts with a smooth malt-based introduction, but pulls back to a spicy, floral (again) honeyed, yet bittered finish. Refreshing and nicely balanced. Well, considering the beer is now quaffed, I do believe the review is over. On to something else for me to dispose of. What a tireless pursuit of my passion and profession. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 23, 2009 Pours reddish orange into a shaker. White head quickly recedes to hug rim. Grapefruit and pine aromas. Crisp pine resin and grapefruit upfront with a caramel middle and a return to resiny grapefruit for the dry, butlasting finish. Leans more to hops in balance, but I think that’s what they were going for.... illinismitty (1811), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

So I picked up a six and boy was I glad that I did. Pours reddish amber with a nice lacing white head. Nice fruity hop aroma. Even though this is listed as an IPA, the bottle says it’s an Imperial amber which I think is a perfect description. Flavor is dominated by the fruity hop profile, but the malt backbone of an amber on steroids makes this one unique...caramel, tea, british pale malts. Finishes sweet, bitter, with some slight piney notes. Nice job by those two brothers in Harrisburg. Being an IPA fan, this may share space with Bells Two Hearted and 3f Alpha King in my session beer fridge. RERATE 1-31-08. I was able to get a fresh draft (2 weeks old) of this and what a difference. The aroma is stellar, and freshness of the hops makes this a stellar malty IPA. This gets a one point improvement in overall and aroma. wheninhell (486), louisville, Kentucky, USA
