COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tröegs Pale Ale is an American style Pale Ale that is aggressively hopped with Northwest Cascades and balanced with Belgian crystal malts to create a hoppy, copper-colored crisp ale. An excellent example of a classic American Pale Ale.

Amber pour with orange highlites supporting an orange-tinted pale khaki head. Fresh citrus aroma. Very pleasing flavor with grapefruit, apricot and crisp hops at the forefront but all very well balanced upon a solid rail of malt. Somewhat light mouthfeel but not watery and a very crisp and clean finish. Overall, this is a very refreshing PA which is just west of an IPA.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2007 Bottle, and I owe it to Kramer17801. Slightly hazy copper pour with a very nice white head atop. Ah, the savory aroma. APA is a style that can be done so well and also so bland. This is an example of why I keep coming back. Crisp floral hop aroma with honey and caramel to balance. There is a substantial presence of tasty citrus/pine burn, but it’s not overwhelming. It leaves a satisfying zing over the palate. The malt profile is right on with juicy caramel, tea, maybe a bit of melon flavors where it meshes with the zesty acidity. This is a really tasteful example of the style. [December 10, 2007] Bottle. I picked up more melon and juicy notes this time around. Less hop bite. Perhaps this bottle was a bit older? Still it’s not bad. It’s quite drinkable.

Had this many times, and never rated it? Pour was a nice amber. Fluffy off white head. Nose was hops, citrus. Crisp hop bite to start, juicy finish. Good APA.

Clear, deep golden body with moderate carbonation and a loose, sudsy white head. Aroma of grapefruit and apricot with lightly sweet pale malt undertones. Has a vague catty note. Moderately sweet, fruity pale malt flavor with stonefruit accents. Medium bitter finish with some palatable residual sugars on the tongue. A solid, sessionable pale ale.

Bottle. Aroma is piney, resiny, slightly earthy. Clear copper color with thin white head. Thin body. Flavor is mostly pine hops with light citrus in the background. Bitterness is sharp initially but still well balanced between hops and malt. Finish is more malt than hops. Overall, goof hop flavor and malt balance--enjoyable beer. I’m not a piney hop fan, but I still liked this one.

Almost perfect example of a quality microbrew American Pale Ale. All the Troegs brews are good, but this is the best of show.

12 oz bottle via trade with Frumpty (thanks!). Pours a clear copper color with a small white head. Mild citrus aroma. Taste is straightforward and extremely balanced with neither hops nor malts overpowering the other, but enough of both to make it interesting and tastey. Caramel, orange, lemon, and a tiny bit of grass come to mind. Light to medium body. Very very good Ale and very easy to drink. Wish i could get these around here.
