Perpetual IPA (Imperial Pale Ale, not India Pale Ale). In our constant evolution as a brewery, we’ve developed a drive to meld artisanal and mechanical. Perpetual IPA utilizes our hopback and dry-hopping to engineer a bold Imperial Pale Ale. We’re always testing the boundaries of modern brewing.

Bottle. The pour was a golden straw orange with an average (1-2 finger) white fluffy head that was mostly lasting, finally reducing to a few puddles and a medium collar with some excellent sticky spotty lacing. The aroma was of floral and citrus hops, grain malts and a sweet yeast with notes of caramel, citrus (grapefruit) and a quite noticeable sweet fruity ester. The taste was a little bitter-sweet with a hint of caramel and had a mild fruitiness from the onset, and then became quite a bit bitterer and nice and hoppy with a definite citrus peel ending. The flavor lasted a very long time proceeding the swallow with a hoppy bitter taste that was left to linger for quite a while longer. Mouthfeel was a few shades beyond light in body and was dry in texture with a moderate carbonation. Overall an extremely well balanced IPA, slightly fruity at the start and pleasurably bitter towards the end with a great drinkability...

Draft at The Pour House in Westmont, NJ. Pours a cloudy, pale golden orange color with yellowish colored edges and a two finger, frothy white head. Good retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap-ring.  Large streaks of soapy lacing left behind. Über fresh, dank hop aroma with strong resinous and floral notes countered by a boat load of citrus and tropical fruit.  Subtle pale malt presence with some bread and biscuit.  There’s also a pine needle character along with prominent pineapple, mango and grapefruit. On the lighter end of medium bodied with a nice balance of dry, earthy bitterness and sweet tropical/citrus fruit notes.  Dry grassy pine  notes followed by a strong tropical and citrus fruit presence.  Lots of pineapple, grapefruit and lemon peel flavor countered by a pale malt backbone.  Really well balanced and easy to drink.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold body with a nice one finger frothy white head that left some nice lacing. The nose is full of fresh floral hops with some breast malt below. I like the aroma, the malt is much more pale and delicate than most IPAs that toss a bunch of crystal malt in. Nothing wrong with a pale IPA. The flavor is very hoppy without having a whole lot of bitterness. This is pretty refreshing and thirst quenching. Lighter bodies with a long lingering finish. This is pretty darn nice. I like the heavy handed hopping without all the malt.

Poured light golden (lighter than I expected), with a thin, white head. Aroma is pine and citrus zest. Taste is very hop-forward. Lots of grapefruit, pine, with a little bit of lime tucked in there. Great IPA.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2013 Location/Date:Re-rate: Bottle on January 22nd, 2013.

Appearance: Pours an orange haze.
Aroma: Aroma of grapefruit and pine.
  Taste: Medium bitterness, grapefruit, pine.
    Palate:Medium, stick, lingering aftertaste.

Summary: A pretty interesting beer, being an Imperial Pale Ale(not a DIPA). A pretty solid beer, regardless of style. My original rated one must have not been fresh.

Old Summary: I realize DIPAs are more sweet than hops, but this one is pretty much on the sweet side. I’m unsure if the issue was the bottle I have has a date of late May and it’s early September. Either way, a pretty good beer and example of the DIPA style. I’ve now rated 9 Troegs beers, and 3 of them are since the start of the day Sunday....

Bottle shared at Sander’s place, NYC that time we all got ripped. Pours clear, dark gold with a robust, white foam head. Toasty malt nsoe with touches of caramel, some lightly tangy citrus. Medium sweet flavor with moderate bitterness, orange and lemon citrus, faint alcohol, grapefruit, some lightly toasted grass. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Moderately resinous to finish, some pine and grass, a bit of toasty sugar, dry citrus. Damn fine.

Pours clear gold with an average sized white head. Pine resin and citrus aroma. Flavor is resiny and bitter, following the flavor. Not as sticky sweet as many Double IPAs tend to be.

Don’t know why this is called a double, it is really just a good standard IPA. Hoppy citrus nose, tarry, resinous body, pretty good, pretty standard.

Really like it - tough on the mouth but has the bitterness I like in an IPA. Wouldn't group it with my favorites but would be more than happy to have again ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
