COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Perpetual IPA (Imperial Pale Ale, not India Pale Ale). In our constant evolution as a brewery, we’ve developed a drive to meld artisanal and mechanical. Perpetual IPA utilizes our hopback and dry-hopping to engineer a bold Imperial Pale Ale. We’re always testing the boundaries of modern brewing.

Troegs never fails to impress. Their IPA (Imperial Pale Ale) delivers an Americanized hops bill that piggybacks on an English malt base. Fruity but not citrus, resiny but not piney, the hops play a lead role in the aroma. But lo, the malt is not to be outdone. Its a push-pull battle to the very end when, at the finish, the hops throw a bitter smack across the palate then bow out gracefully in a clean slick finish. Let’s not forget the clean golden appearance or sticky wads of Belgian lace that grace the drinking vessel either. I wish this one was Perpetually in my fridge.

Bottle. Orange color with a white head. Smell is really fruity, citrus notes, grass, typical IPA smell. Taste is bitter, yet easy drinking. A top notch IPA that just adds a new beer into the rotation of purchases.

Aroma of corn meal, resin, toast & methane. light yellow with modest white head. Thinly bitter with light malt. A disappointment from Troegs.

Pours clear, golden and lighter bodied. Aroma of pine needle, overripe pear, dried mango slices, caramelly sweet malts. Fruity and resinous notes. Flavor is bitter, biting and dry. Earthy, pine forward hops are present with what I detect to be an English malt base. Fruit notes in the nose are a little lost in the flavor. A nice go-to IPA to have in the fridge for a hop fix.

UPDATED: MAR 14, 2015 From a can. Light clear yellow pour big white head. Grassy hop aroma, hint of fruits. Light malt body, lemon citrus grassy pine hop character. Light onion hop finish. Not boozy at all. Pairs nicely with pound cake, not at all with hot wings.

12 oz. bottle, sent from wilco (thanks Mike), pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out loads of piney and resinous hops, light herbal notes, and a sufficient lightly sweet cereal malt backing. Flavour is very pungent, with loads of piney hops, light herbal notes, and dry powdery crackery notes. Not too bitter, nor too heavy on the palate, probably due to some pale malt bill used. Finishes dry, piney, with a fairly low astringency for an IPA (sorry, imperial pale ale). Excellent beer.

Bottled. A clear dark golden beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of citrus, pine resin is very pronounced, sharp. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt hitting you first, citrusy orange next, a bit of straw, then pine resin again in your face. A very bitter and dry finish. Well done, technically this beer may be flawless. I just suppose that subjectively I prefer more fruit notes in my IPA’s than pine/evergreen. Troegs is proving to be a very sound brewery indeed and their reputation is spot on. Glad to have them in NC.

Slightly earthy smell, nice gold with a long lasting lacing white head, clear and beautiful. Heavy duty beer, soft carbonation, slightly unbalanced bitterness but not overkill for iipa. Tons of nice resiny flavours with a long lasting aftertaste with notes of pine that develop and build throughout the whole experience. Very nice!

Hazy blond color with small head. Very nice aroma, fruity, a bit minty. Lean mouthfeel, off-dry, smooth, a bit milky; the malt profile is excellent, with a bit of crackery and cereally touch; delicate resins, and citrusy touch.
Excellent.

Tap. Light hazy golden, offwhite creamy lace. Fine citric hop nose. Full chewy body, lightly carbonated. Fruity base, lemonpeel and with substance like a key lime pie. Light leafy aftertaste. Nice.
