pours a dark ruby brown with an off-white head. aroma is nutty, caramel, some malt, tiny modest hops. taste is nutty and caramely, with some hoppy notes. mid-bodied with a watery-yet-sudsy mouthfeel. nice nuttiness and caramel, although it is a bit wet and dull. flavors seem a bit too standard; there’s almost an artificial quaility to it. definitely not my favorite from troegs, but a nice session brew.

Surprisingly clear. Aroma is very nice, chocolate with nuts. First taste is nice, but not very bitter, sweet, or anything else. A bit watery, but not off putting. About what I’d expect from a 4% abv. Head is thin and listless. Visually, thin and quiet. Aroma/Olfactory: Malt flavor is: chocolate, nuts, barley. Hop flavor is: slightly bitter, but only for a second. Yeast flavor is: of clay. Other flavors include: a hint of cinnamon, pepper, raisin, but only thin traces. Visuals/Appearance: Color is: bright, reddish brown, reminds me of the red cellophane coded messages on kids cereals, or the red plastic in 3d glasses. Color may be the best part of this beer. Liquid is: clear and slightly dark. Head and lace are: minimal and light tan. Taste/Flavor: Maltiness or Sweetness level is: light Hoppiness or Bitterness level is: light Sour level is: none Palate/Tactile: Body or Mouthfeel is: light, watery Texture is: thin, smooth, lifeless. Carbonation is: flat Finish is: quick. Overall experience: A fairly watery, thin, but pretty beer. Chocolate makes it sort of interesting, and there’s some sort of cherry back end, but it’s just not very interesting.

Draught at DBA in NYC. Dark amber color, offwhite head. Roasted malty nut aroma, smoke, tar and licorice notes. Malty flavor, chocolate, roasted, some tar. A bit thin. Malty choclate finish.

Draft. A pretty decent brown, reminiscent of a new castle. Poured brown, hoppyiness & nuttiness.

Tap at d.b.a. Very deep brown beer with a thick tan head. Aroma is quite nutty and chocolately. Light UK malts underneath. Very low hop rate with only a hint of bitterness to balance the sweetness of this brew. Palate is a bit thin though. Light chocolate flavour with a hint of toast. It’s okay, but the watery palate doesn’t really do much for me.

Pours a medium brown with an off white head. Very nice aroma of coffee and nuts, yeilding an initial tongue coating of the same. A respectable amount of woodsy earth tones towards the end. Very smooth. Not my favorite, but I will definitly purchase again.

Troeg’s Rugged Trail Nut Brown Ale is okay but a little weak compared to other nut brown ales.

bottle. aroma was very hoppy with a hint of smoke. very dark brown color with a small light brown head that didn’t last. fair lacing. tastes like nuts a bit of smoke and a hint of fruit. left with a bit of a smoke flavor in my mouth but not too strong. kind of thin feel for a brown ale but not bad at all.
