Commercial Description:
Tröegs Rugged Trail Ale is a unique rendition of a classic English Brown. It has a deep bronze color, rocky head, and prominent Fuggle hop aroma. Toasted amber and Chocolate malts impart a "Nutty" richness and creamy velvet texture.

Leaning towards porter in color, but still fairly light on the palate. Aroma is like one of those Starbucks Double-Shot iced drinks. Pleasant, slightly chocolaty flavor. Good stuff.

Bottle: Pours a very deep brown with ruby highlights and a creamy tan head. The aroma has some lactic/milky hints, mild chocolate and almond/nutty notes. Creamy palate, mildly carbonated. Flavor is mild with a hint of mocha roast and a sweet nuttiness. Also a light sourdough touch in the middle when it warms. Mild coffee-ish roasted finish. Mild and light, but what’s there is decent.

From the bottle pours very dark brown, clear with a nutty hop aroma. Off white head with creamy toasty texture on the pallet. Smooth and nutty malt flavor with a hint of chocolate and hops at the end. Troegs puts together some nice beer.

Ah my first Troegs. I have waited a bit to get my hands on anything from this brewery, and now I have it. And I have it as I sit in Brooklyn. You can’t get Troegs in NY. But I have it...because I went all the way to Philly to get it. I nominate myself for beer freak of the year. Pours a clear dark brown. Tan head that has some staying power. Nose is not very there. Seems mild and almost dirty. Very mild nut quality to it. Flavor is oh my goodness. Damn Gina! Such subtle qualities to it. It doesn’t yell and scream in your face but hits you with multiple layers of things to ponder. I even get a small amount of raisins here. Beyond that the nice earthy and woody stuff. Minor caramel mixed with almost a wood/bark flavor. Amazing levels of flavor here, but you really have to be ready to seek them out. Feel has a good carbonation and a nice level of liquid feel. Very drinkable. One of the best EBAs I have had in so long. More of a beer to ponder than just down. I like.

Dark brown pour from a bottle, with only a hint of a head, great malty nut aroma. A nice nutty taste. A decent beer, although I’ve had better brown ale’s.

Thanks to grandet for this beer. Pours a dark root beer brown with an uneventful, but decent tan head. Lightly roasted malt flavor with a nutty and earthy flavor that reminds me of Houston’s early autumn. Some woodsy smokiness in the finish.
