bp (451), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 17, 2007 Draft: pour is dark brown with little head, aroma of chocolate and malt, flavor is mallty, chocolate and coffee, nicely balanced. Very good brew. obguthr (986), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Nov 15, 2007 Nutty but yeasty aroma. Clear and thin looking reddish brown, absolutely no head. Deliciously woody flavor of bark, walnuts, and smoke. Relatively clean finish by comparison, but with a very faint hint of roasted nuts. Sparing use of quality hops becomes more pronounced during warming. bonbright7 (173), Bellport, New York, USA Nov 11, 2007 This brown ale had a refreshing and light coffee- malt taste that lingered for a while. I was thinking this would have been good with ham and swiss on rye. themadmumis (344), Westminster, Maryland, USA Nov 7, 2007 Brought this back home in a Growler from the brewery. Mostly maltly with nut tones, yet a strong hop finish on top. Not so much chocolate or creaminess... thin bodied. Worth going over once. CharlesDarwin (1822), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Nov 3, 2007 12 Oz Bottle. Nibbling British cookie and Moroccan sugar aroma. Soft and quiet. Pours a middle brown with creamy off-white head. Flavor is dominating by singular caramelization. Too much of some specialty malt. Edges into charred bitterness. There’s a whirl of nuttiness playing with some earthy, herbal hops, but the glowing toasted quality outshines and makes it tough to drink this too much. Mineral tones from yeast and alcohol soften the beer a little, but it doesn’t gain a lot of ground. Crawls out the door on a light biscuit suite. Yeah, it’s a brown ale. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Oct 29, 2007 12 oz. bottle. Clear, dark brown pour with a healthy light tan head and nice lace in a tulip glass. Caramel, roasted nuts, and a bit of spiciness in the aroma. Smooth, lightly carbonated, and a medium body. The malty sweetness is tempered by a softly bitter hoppiness, although I wouldn’t call the finish dry. Still, this is an easy drinking, flavorful beer. Seems like it’s becoming harder to find good, basic, simple session beers. This fits the bill. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA Oct 26, 2007 Dark brown in color. Big malty nose. Flavors of caramel, nut, semi-swet chocolate. Mildly dry finish. Smooth mouthfeel. Not bad at all. BREWMUSKCLES (1062), New Jersey, USA Oct 25, 2007 deep hued reddish brown. mild roasted malty nose with a touch of chemical ie soapiness. moderate palate is a bit chalky. a bit too mild for me. carbonation a touch too low.hardly bitter in my book. creamy and mild fruitiness like a fruit punch. short watery finish.
