Commercial Description:
Tröegs Rugged Trail Ale is a unique rendition of a classic English Brown. It has a deep bronze color, rocky head, and prominent Fuggle hop aroma. Toasted amber and Chocolate malts impart a "Nutty" richness and creamy velvet texture.

Bottle from hopdog. Thanks. Dark garnet pour with no head. Nose of roasted malt, light cocoa, coffee, a little smoke and mild hoppiness. Flavor is more roasted malts, chocolate, and hops. A think this brown is a little underrated. I enjoyed it.

Deep amber color with a foamy mocha head. Dusty chocolate and coffee bean nose. The initial taste of this beer is of an odd, greasey meat. Nutty, yes, but also smokey with chocolate, burnt toast, coffee bean and a leafy grass finish.

Pours a good brown color with an ok head if you pour it right, but the heads goes to hell really fast. Roasted chocolate and caramelly aroma. Definitely a creamy feel going down the mouth. Finish is a little metallic. Front of the beer is definitely the better part of it with nutty, malty, and chocolate flavours.

Bottle. Rerate bottle on Sep 7 was considerably better than the initial one in July 07; bumped score up a total of 0.5 points. Pours dark brown with ruby highlights, medium head that lasts well. Nose is faint cocoa, smoke and prickly spices. Begins with chocolate and metallic tones; turns towards molasses. Finishes with herby cocoa and molasses, and a hint of smoke and coffee at times. Palate is medium and starts fairly smooth, but heads towards an unseemly watery, over-carbonated finish. Lotsa flavor for a brown.

Bottle; poured a dark brown, with quickly diminishing beige head. Aroma was pretty subtle; with hints of caramel, chocolate and a light roasted essence. Flavor was pretty light, but good; palate was smooth and drinkable, with a slightly dry ending. About average overall, but good for the style.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Clear, dark, orangey brown with a creamy, beige head. Lightly burned caramel aroma. Rather thin and watery body, some burned caramel and roasted malt and a hint of fruit. But fairly dry without any real bitterness. Quite drinkable though. 280507
