| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 4, 2007 A dark velvet, almost cola tint forms minimal head....syrupy sugar maltiness in the nose...swift, thin rush to the throat--distributes evenly...a bit too fizzy and a bit too un-nutty to produce high marks...a malt presence that suggests imbalance...with time, the taste settles in the tastebuds...not among the better nut browns, but not a turn-off to the style either....Troegs gets the benefit of the doubt normally, but this lacks the professed "toasted" tag I read in its description.... swoopjones (1897), Buffalo, New York, USA

Nose of roasted malt, light cocoa, coffee, a little smoke and mild hoppiness. Flavor is more roasted malts, chocolate, and hops. A think this brown is a little underrated. I enjoyed it. jsquire (2098), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 7, 2007 Deep amber color with a foamy mocha head. Dusty chocolate and coffee bean nose. The initial taste of this beer is of an odd, greasey meat. Nutty, yes, but also smokey with chocolate, burnt toast, coffee bean and a leafy grass finish. mansquito (821), Boston/Philadelphia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jul 4, 2007 Pours a good brown color with an ok head if you pour it right, but the heads goes to hell really fast. Roasted chocolate and caramelly aroma. Definitely a creamy feel going down the mouth. Finish is a little metallic. Front of the beer is definitely the better part of it with nutty, malty, and chocolate flavours. nearbeer (1834), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 1, 2007 Updated: Sep 7, 2007Bottle. Rerate bottle on Sep 7 was considerably better than the initial one in July 07; bumped score up a total of 0.5 points. Pours dark brown with ruby highlights, medium head that lasts well. Nose is faint cocoa, smoke and prickly spices. Begins with chocolate and metallic tones; turns towards molasses. Finishes with herby cocoa and molasses, and a hint of smoke and coffee at times. Palate is medium and starts fairly smooth, but heads towards an unseemly watery, over-carbonated finish. Lotsa flavor for a brown. Glazed9884 (207), USA
