Commercial Description:
Tröegs Rugged Trail Ale is a unique rendition of a classic English Brown. It has a deep bronze color, rocky head, and prominent Fuggle hop aroma. Toasted amber and Chocolate malts impart a "Nutty" richness and creamy velvet texture.

Pour is a translucent dark brown with a medium head that dies quickly and leaves just a hint of lacing. Aroma is grainy-with hints of chocolate, toasted nuts and yeast. Flavor is good, much of the same but comes off slighly watery.

Sometimes, the word "understated" implies a certain refinement, or class. In this case, it means timid. There just enough enough anything to make any aspect stand out.

12 oz Bottle-Pours a dark ruby red w/a slight foamy head. Almost no aroma. Not a lot of hops or malt, just not a lot. It’s a Brown Ale, maybe some roasted almonds & chocolate. Weak sweet finish. Nothing special, you can drink it but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it.

Bottle. Pours with a very nice thick head. Opaque dark ruby in color. Almost no discernable nose. Sweet malt in front, little or no hops in back. Well balanced, but I figured there to be more hops in there, like a Northern Brown Ale.

Pours dark mahogany, ruby color, average head and lacing. Nose of light toast and roast, some fruit and metal. A bit unbalanced, light sweetness, no diacetyl and a bit tangy. Eh, I’ve had better.
