Commercial Description:
Tröegs Rugged Trail Ale is a unique rendition of a classic English Brown. It has a deep bronze color, rocky head, and prominent Fuggle hop aroma. Toasted amber and Chocolate malts impart a "Nutty" richness and creamy velvet texture.

deep brown with modest initial white head on top. Suitable carbonated, aroma of nut and molasses and licorice. Smooth and very malty drinkable. Little bitterness from hops. Nice transition beer.

Bottle. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted nuts, caramel), lightly yeasty (dough), with a light note of diacetyl. Flavor is moderately sweet. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively/fizzy carbonation. Sweet, simple.

in the bottle. Pours a dark brown with an ecru-colored head. Aroma is a bit nutty, but mostly toasted (slightly roasted in fact). Flavor is VERY smooth. People who don’t want their beer to hurt them would like this a lot. Mellow body and a quick one to quaff.

Poours a dark reddish brown with almost no head. Nut brown not my favorite, and this is no surprise, for better or worse. Some dry malt, some classic British hops, but neither intensity nor complexity.

Not so good. Dark-brown in color but no distinct nutty malt characteristics which are what make a "nut" brown ale. Very light on the palate. This brown ale could be enjoyed on a hot summer day. Lightweight!!

Bottle from sampler pack. Pretty good brown ale. Balance of hops and malt, some roasty flavor.

Pours a nice reddish brown. Aromas of toasty malts, brown sugar, and nuts. Flavor is lightly sweet malts and a nice touch of hops, and a nutty finish.

Rugged Trail feels like I am hiking in the Appalachians. The nutty character and slight smoky nature has some nice sweetness as well.
