jon112981 (327), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA Mar 30, 2005 Bottle. Dark brown but somehwat translucent. Nutty armoa. Flavor is dry and somewhat short lasting. A decent beer but nothing overly special. GuilTTy (527), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA Feb 25, 2005 Light mahogany pour under an airy off-white head with little lacing. Molasses, caramel, toffee and oats along with roasted malt in the aroma. Dry nutty flavor very apparent with a little malt and bittersweet chocolate sneaking in. Finish was fairly dry but not particularly noteworthy. Thin mouthfeel. Overall, a reasonably good beer but not nearly as good as the real thing from Britian so I’ll probably stick with my English mates and chose a Samual Smiths over this one. bmanLS (114), Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 19, 2005 Thin pour, maple color, hoppy with a strange nutty flavor. I sort of like this ale, not too bad. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Feb 14, 2005 Chestnut brown body with a nice beige head. Nutty aroma, sweet, caramel, buttery, slight chocolate. On the thin and watery side. Flavor was malty, some nuttiness and a little buttery. Not bad but nothing exceptional.
brentfeesh (1030), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Feb 4, 2005 A final thanks to pjk33 for this last brew I’m about to taste. This was a good one. The brew poured a brown with amber leanings, and possessed a minimal off white-brown head. The aroma was lightly nutty with toasted malt…somewhat sweet. I felt like one of my brother’s hippie friends drinking this. Thought I should be out on a camping expedition. Thought it was great stylistically with a toasted malt flavor and nuttiness. The body was well represented with creaminess and solid medium core. A good brown. Homebrewerguy (284), Oil City, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 30, 2005 Nice smellink it vas ov roastet barley, Tastink zis I definately got a nut.....flavor zat ist! I askt Helga to go buy me zum more but she zay ve haf enuff nuts in ze howse already ...but I could not be findink any. Iz zhe nuts? Earlier Rating: 1/29/2005 Total Score: 3.7 Nice looking beer, aroma of roasted malts is evident, rather heavy roasted malt flavor reminiscent of black malt which lends some tartness to it. This may be a wee bit heavy in roasted malt for a traditional brown ale but not as an American style. Very tasty beer. BuckNaked (1204), Tempe, Arizona, USA Jan 15, 2005 Bottle: Light brown & ruby body with a medium tan head. Medium bodied. Sweet roasted malt, nuts, toasted grains make up the nose. Taste is slighly roasty, with notes of caramel, chocolate, nuts, and a strange acidic tartness that tingles my tongue. Quetzalcoatl (153), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jan 8, 2005 Thin head on a ruby body. Heavy roasted malt aroma. Flavor is again a roasty, chocolate flavor. Bitter finish. Smooth, easy drinking. Not bad.
