Pours clear brown with reddish highlights and a large off-white head that diminished slowly to a ring of bubbles. Lots of toasty malts in the aroma and flavor, clean taste with prominent hoppiness as well. Medium body and gentle carbonation - nice beer overall. jasonp (1509), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 3, 2004 Pours a sparkling clear ruby red brown with a quickly fading head. Nutty aroma. Taste has notes of caramel, toasty malts, nuts and toffee. Disappointing thinnish mouthfeel, could use more malt and body. Not bad by any means but there’s nothing about the brew that will drive you to buy it again. egajdzis (3621), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 11, 2004 Poured a clear brown color with a fluffy off white head and light lacing on the glass. Aroma of nuts, caramel malts, and light roastiness. Taste was mildly hoppy, with lots of malts and nuts. It had an average mouthfeel. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 25, 2004 Bottle pours translucent dark plum, medium frothy light tan colored head, sticky lacing, with low carbonation. Roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate on the nose. Seems rather robust for a Brown Ale. Forwardly nutty, slightly malty, but seems rather thin from the get-go. Medium body, thin mouthfeel. Finishes with a slight nuttiness, malt and hint of chocolate. Great aroma, but falls flat on flavor.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 20, 2004 Clear dark rufous. Creamy dull beige collar of foam. Soft roasted malt, toffee, dates, unsweetened chocolate aromatics. Milder notes of roasted nuts, coffee, perfume, and leafy hops. Soft, yet fuzzy, carbonation. Moderate acidity is curtailed by modest roast and oxidized chocolate malt. Subtle airiness lessens the overall girth of the brew. Only the slightest hint of roasted nuts in the flavor. Simplistic, slightly dry and chalky conclusion of toffee and roast with flourishing milk chocolate and woody malts atop an earthy hop backdrop. Late push of acidity in the aftertaste. This would serve as a nice crossover brew, but that’s about it. Holdwine (908), Beertimore, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 15, 2004 Great brown ale. Nuttiness ensues. Creamy malt with a touch of hops makes this an easy drinking, thirst quencher. Falconseye8 (525), Cartersville, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 24, 2004 Coffee undertone, chocolate, smokey hoppy flavor. Nut brown by Troegs is a very good beer. Again, another brew that may not be receiving the accolades it deserves. Its definitely creamy textured. I’m going to say again, Pennsylvania rocks and so does Troegs beers. Not a disappointment anywhere in sight. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
