Commercial Description:
Tröegs Rugged Trail Ale is a unique rendition of a classic English Brown. It has a deep bronze color, rocky head, and prominent Fuggle hop aroma. Toasted amber and Chocolate malts impart a "Nutty" richness and creamy velvet texture.

Dark pour with minimal off-white head. A little malt and some hops. Flavor is of the same. Not great, but not bad.

Poured a pretty standard light brown color with a foamy head. Aroma was mostly toasted malts and maybe a hint of hops, but not much. The flavor was mainly straight maltiness, but had a weird cherry fruityness that I didn’t like. Nothing completely offensive with this one, but not much right with it either.

Bottle. Pours a mostly opaque brown body with a reddish hue at the edges and a tall soft tan head. Nose is roasty and nutty with some sweet bread notes. The pallate is light and slighty thin and feels almost metallic. Flavor is front loaded with roasty nutty malts and a pleasant dry baking powder flavor. Sugar cookie dough almost. The flavors quickly fade and turn watery and undecernable. Would make a nice dinner beer depending on what the pairing is.

bottle poured a chestnut brown color with a thin off white head. aroma has roasted malt, chocolate, and nuts. mouth feel is on the light side and the carbonation is low. flavor is in line with the nose and the roast is at a session level. very nice light chocolate and a finish with mild bitterness and nuts.

This is one of my fav from Troegs. As Nut browns go this is a good example of the style. Nutty brown in color with a decent creamy tan head. the beer has a good roasted malty aroma and the taste is smooth with the same nutty and malt balance from the scent. The feel is smooth and tasty

12oz bottle. Pours dark brown color with thin tan head. Smell of malts, chocolate and some nuts. Taste is much better than smell, rich chocolate malts with touch of herbs and spices. Balanced and smooth. Overall solid brown ale.

Reddish brown pour with a minimal and rapidly disappearing head. Malty smell with maybe a hint of some nutty flavor. Too metallic in the mouth for me, and a definite disappointment as my first beer from a brewery I have heard so many good things about.

Ruby/mahogany, thin white head. Nose is malt, cocoa, marshmallow, nice sweetness. Flavor is woody cherries, marshmallows, bitter fruits.
