There was a 1" tan head that disappated about 1/2 way through the glass. There was nice lacing while the head remand. There was a mild nutty aroma and some sweetness. There was a good nutty flavor and a slightly dry finish. Hints of chocolate were detected in the aroma and flavor as I was drinking through the glass. At only 4.4% ABV this is a good beer to have over & over. From a variety pack KornDogg (226), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA

Nutty, roasty flavor with hints of sweet caramel.. a lot better then most brown ales Duhast500 (222), , Massachusetts, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2009 Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a pint glass.
The color is Dark black, held to the light it has a deep maroon or red color. The was a slight foamy light brown head which dissolved rather quick leaving no film on the glass.
The smell is slightly fruity at first, nutty with a nice hint of hops in the background.
The taste has a good subtleness to it. Nutty with some hints of roasted malts it has a nice amount taste but not overpowering.
The feel of this beer is very light. Low in ABV and well balanced. It makes a pretty good session beer as well as a good beer for it’s smoothness.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 21, 2006 I really enjoyed this. A little low on the alcohol. But for a brown ale the balance between sweet and hop is right on. I would like to take this on the trail. acearl (218), J-Town, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma has a hint of chocolate, roasted malts & a slight nuttiness. Flavor is roasted malts, coffee & just a bit of chocolate. Very smooth, but a bit on the thin side. Dry, slightly metallic finish. Easy drinker. warrior (213), Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 6, 2003 I like the newer version of this brown ale. Tastes more like an english example than the american style brown ale. I think the old version was brewed with more hops like an american style. I prefer the malty and slightly sweet flavor of the new version.
