Flavor is more nuts, heavy caramel, figs, and honey. Sweet finish, decent carbonation. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Has plenty of nutty aromas and nutty taste- roasted nuts particularly. Not a whole lot of carbonation. A really nice nut brown, might be one of my new favorites in that category. gabbama (116), Ft. Nice light toasted malt and nutty chocolate flavors. Looses points with me for a pretty thin, watery body. Overall, not bad but nothing spectacular here. Naka (528), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 14, 2008 Pours a very dark brown color with a small light beige fizzy head that disappears quickly. The aroma is kind of like a hazelnut latte. A roasty coffee with some definite sweetness. The flavor is pretty much the same. It has some coffee, brown sugar... almost like something from the Nutty Bavarian. The body is kind of light, but overall, it is a good traditional brown ale without feeling it necessary to completely over-hop it. gringo332 (253), Richardson, Texas, USA

Nice stout or porter like aromas of roasted malt, with a hint of coffee. Medium bodied and with more roast coming through, and a touch of sweetness. Finishes with a nice roast bitterness and a little bit of grain. Somewhat one dimensional, but not terrible. RHeastings (444), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 3, 2009 12oz bottle in a pub glass. The beer pours a dark brown to just short of black with a just off-white head that disappears within 90 seconds. The initial nose of a small amount of caramel gives way to earthy hops. The carbonation level is just about perfect for the style. Hops come across the palate first, followed by chocolate malt (maybe pale chocolate?) and either special roast or maybe Victory malt. In any case, the English character malts fill the flavor out and add enjoyable, if slightly too restrained caramel, dark chocolate, and molasses flavors. Overall, a very subtle, very English, and pretty decent brown ale. amccormi (3), Pennsylvania, USA does not count | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2009 Very nice malt profile, full of chocolate, with just a hint of bitter roast coming through. Hops made no distinct impression, but balanced the sweetness of the malt. Smooth finish was satisfying. I’d drink it again.
