Pours a nice dark, brown color and head that sits on top for a while.Aroma is of roasted dry malt with hints of coffee. Tasted some malt and coffee, body was ok but a little thin and watery.Overall this Ok stuff, but not as good as it could be. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

Dark brown, knocking on black’s door, but no one has answered just yet. This is a session beer champ right here folks. Nice smooth malt profile with a touch of roasted malt. This is the kind of beer that needs to be readily availible everywhere. This is the kind of beer that that lends itself well to drinking while you hang out with the guys. Thanks to Slob for another awesome beer. nearbeer (1887), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jul 1, 2007 Updated: Sep 7, 2007Bottle. Rerate bottle on Sep 7 was considerably better than the initial one in July 07; bumped score up a total of 0.5 points. Pours dark brown with ruby highlights, medium head that lasts well. Nose is faint cocoa, smoke and prickly spices. Begins with chocolate and metallic tones; turns towards molasses. Finishes with herby cocoa and molasses, and a hint of smoke and coffee at times. Palate is medium and starts fairly smooth, but heads towards an unseemly watery, over-carbonated finish. Lotsa flavor for a brown. checkmatei1 (630), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2007 Poured a thick dark brown with a chocolate/coffee aroma. The taste definately had hints of coffee but wasn’t overly strong. This was a very smooth beer that went down easy. Butters (1689), Virginia, USA

Nose of roasted malt, toffee, chocolate, and sweet corn. Toasty, bready, nutty, woody, earthy, malty flavor. Medium , creamy body with a smooth, well balanced finish. Probably my favorite brown ale. franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA

Smells nutty with a slight spice and vanilla. Taste is simple with a little hop and malt. Medium in the mouth with favorable carbonation. Awesome session beer that is good for all occations.

Unimpressive at first, but flavors developed as my hand warmed it up, so probably just served too cold. Birdiebeagle (823), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA
