12 oz. bottle.
A thin creamy brown head.
Dark brown in appearance.
Not at all bitter. Light for a dark beer, like an American ale should be.
A rather nice pour.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The body has a dark caramel brown color with reddish highlights and a tall tan head on top. The head is very long lasting and thick. It is supported by nice visible carbonation that streams up the sides of the glass. As I drink it leaves behind lots of cool lace patters. There is a nice malty aroma with toasted bready notes and sweet roasted caramel notes. Just behind that is light earthy/leafy hop presence. It is sweet overall with nice roasted and toasted character. Sweet caramel and nutty notes mix with dark chocolate and roasted coffee notes. This is then backed up in the finish with some earthy and leafy hop spice and bitterness for some balance. The body has a good medium feel with just enough carbonation to give it some life.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft at brewery tap room. Pours brown with a khaki head. Leaves little lacing on the glass. Slight hints of nuttiness on the nose. A little stronger on the tongue but the nuttiness is still a bit too subdued for my taste. Finishes clean.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Vanilla, chocolate, nut, and a little booze in the aroma. Sweet flavor with vanilla, chocolate, and nuts. Lightly bitter coffee/chocolate finish. I liked this a lot better than I expected given the other ratings, but--full disclosure--I like sweet beers.

On tap 4 oz. sample/flight at the Troeg's tasting room in Hersheypark, PA. Both the board at the tasting room and Troeg's website listed the ABV as 5.9%, which is much higher than the 4.4% at which this beer was previously listed.
Opaque, dark brown with a small khaki head and excellent lacing.
Aroma of caramel, chocolate, bread and nuts.
Taste of roasted malt, caramel, nuts and chocolate.
Medium/light body and medium carbonation.
A very drinkable brew.

Bottle. This is a nice soft NB with a smooth mouthfeel and deeper flavor than usual for this style.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Originally reviewed: 6/8/09. Pours a cola color with a tan fluffy head on top. Retains fairly well, but there is no lacing at all. Smells like banana bread, brown sugar, some molasses, and caramel.
Mouthfeel is thin and wet. Some mild carbonation on the tongue. Flavor of molasses, sweet breads and finishes with just a touch of bitterness. Not bad.

The dead have risen! Zombie beer from the past back by popular demand. A small batch brewed on the Scratch system, tap only for the locals at the brewery.
A - Pours deep dark brown with a pillowy two finger tall white head leaving light streaks of lace down the glass.
S - Smells of caramel, toffee, fresh roasted nuts, day old coffee, and a touch of molasses. Not the best smell but not the worst either.
T - Starts off with a bit of sweetness; mostly molasses and caramel; quickly giving way to hints of nuts, stale coffee, and a touch of hop bitterness. Grows a bit watery at the end of the glass but it was still easy to finish.
M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Smooth, slightly sweet feel with a bit of chewiness coming through more and more as it sits in the glass.
O - I am glad to see this one back around, all be it for a short period of time. I have missed this one dearly as it is very easy to drink and the low ABV make it very sessionable. I shall get my fill while it lasts...
