3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
First and foremost, this rating is based on how this one is drinking right now, not in the past.
Once again, big thanks to Deuane for giving me one of these to try.
A - Pours pale golden orange with a small film of white head, dissipating down to nothing at all, leaving no lace at all down the glass.
S - Smells of sweet caramel malt, green apple, fresh bread, juniper, light spiciness - namely clove and coriander - and some fruity yeast.
T - Flavors are similar to the nose with some extra sugary sweetness thrown in. The fruity flavor only grows as it sits in the glass. Finish is pretty sweet with a bit more fruitiness, lingering on the palate long after the finish.
M - Medium body with very light carbonation. Slick feel with a small boozy twang at the end of each sip.
O - This one is pretty much done at this point. The flavors are all over the place and the nose isn’t too bad but the rest is all but gone at this point.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: The beer pours a pale, cloudy golden orange color with a small white head.
S: Lots of really sweet malt and sugar with a little bit of orange peel. A light spiciness, clove and coriander for the most part, and yeast. Some bread, but mostly sugary sweetness.
T: Like with the nose, big time sugar flavor/sweetness. A bit of the juniper comes through, but there is plenty of spice and yeast. Some bread and a bit of alcohol come through.
M: Light to medium in body with medium carbonation.
O: The alcohol flavor is a bit off-putting, but pretty good overall.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce bottle. Pours a mostly clear orange color with a small white head. A nice sweet fruity esters nose, some floral and earthy notes. The flavor is very nice; mellow banana and berries, sweet but not overly so, some light spices. Easygoing and a bit dusty. Enjoyable to drink after the Steelers secured another visit to the Super Bowl!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A solid pour into my 25cl tulip glass produces a two-finger thick, pale, off-white colored head. The beer is a light gold color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright yellow-gold hue when held up to the light. If the head had any staying power this would have been picturesquely perfect looking. The aroma smells of juniper berries, lemony citrus notes, an herbal sort of chamomile like note and some general floral characteristics. From the base beer aromas of clove are most noticeable, but there is also a subtle honey-like maltiness, some spicy alcohol, a touch of white pepper as well as a sweet grain-like quality. This beer is definitely dominated by the spice additions, but these were done pretty well and all of the aromatic notes mix together pretty well.
Soft, slightly creamy textured up front, but this picks up a slight prickle of carbonation as it rolls across the tongue. The citrusy coriander and the juniper berries play a significant role in the middle and finish. The juniper, along with some higher alcohols and phenolic clove notes all provide some balancing spice character to the finish. Soft notes of apple are just noticeable underneath the fruit juniper and coriander and there is a honey’ish malt character that tends to accentuate all the fruit character. This beer drinks quite light for its strength, which is exactly what any decent Tripel should do.
The spice character is definitely the dominant note here, though it is the fruit aspects of these additions that plays the lead role. Luckily the particular mix of spices works quite well in this beer; even the coriander is nice and clean, more citrusy than dirty and earthy like so many beers that use coriander. This is definitely an interesting contrast with the Scratch # 3. This shows absolutely not signs of oxidation, it is a year younger than 3, and the spices will likely help it to stave off those effects longer. This should still age quite gracefully for a while.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle thanks to Sean! Poured a very hazy gold with no head. Aroma had dark floral, coriander, juniper and sweet grain. Also definitely picked up some beets. Flavor is sweet with grain and beets and some underlying strong spices of juniper and coriander.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours to a carbonated soda sounding bright golden body with some floaties and a rapidly dissipating head. The aroma is sweet and herbal with a strong tripel yeast, cereals, and a light dry spice. Subtle lemons. The flavor has a sweet kick up front that dissipates into a malty cereal and hay. Light lemon and subtle earthy spices with ginger on the finish. Surprisingly dry finish causes the beer to fall off the tongue. Finishes really clean for 10%. This would be an evil beer because it although it has some warming, given that it finishes clean, it’s unsuspecting. A fairly nice brew that held up well with no signs of oxidation.
