COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Scratch #14-2008 is our interpretation of a farmhouse ale—a once near-extinct winter-brewed (and summer–imbibed) Belgian ale. celebratory brew starts with a black pepper and ginger nose. The nicely carbonated brew releases a honey-malt flavor that gives way to a tart crisp finish that masks the elevated ABV. We use a blended yeast strain (Saison Dupont & Le Chouffe) to create the traditional peppery, spicy earthy flavors of the saison. Slight hints of ginger also come through in the finish. Drink it ‘til the wedding bells chime!

O.G.: 15.4 Plato
I.B.U.’s: 25
Malt: Pils, Munich, Vienna
Yeast: Belgian/Saison Blend
Juju: Ginger
Hops: English Pilgrim, Saaz

Bottle. Pours hazy and golden-amber in hue. A tight head of eggshell colored foam settles slowly to a patchy, clumpy layer, leaving broken, sheety lacing all over the glass. The nose is heavy on doughy sweet bread yeast and candied blond malt, with a creamy chiffon overtone, spicy ginger, and pickled yuzu. Hints of white pepper lend further balancing spice. The flavor is similarly structured, again based in softly sweet, candy glazed cereal grain malt, with peppery spice and notes of dried banana and orange. The palate is velvety smooth and substantial, Initially a little sweet but transitioning to a zesty, peppery, semi-dry finish. Good stuff. Plenty tasty and refreshing.

Thanks to Rich for the bottle. Poured healthy medium golden with a dense cap of creamy white head.. lovely pour. The aroma picked up soft fruity and floral notes topped with peppery spices and orange zest.. balance was delicate and enjoyable. The flavor had bready and honey notes at the core.. the fruits and flowers from the nose were more accents and slightly bitter here.. orange zest and vanilla around.. finished with fine balance between sweet and tangy character. Medium-bodied with thick carbonation on the palate.. this beer just rolled across the tongue.. spicy and refreshing on the finish. I really dug this one!

Thanks to Captaincougar for this one. Pour is cloudy golden color with large white head. Aroma is grapefruit, black pepper, ginger, orange, wheat, hay, grass, and a little funk. Flavor is spicy black pepper, grapefruit, hay, grass, and a lightly citrus hop finish. Very tasty and crisp. A nice summer treat.

14-2008 - Pours clear yellow (until the sediment goes) with a very large white head...aroma is spicy and citric, with s sweet, fruity malt presence...flavour is coriander, clove, pepper, lightly grainy, dirt...all the fun belgian fruit follows the spice, which is immediately followed by some alcohol...finish is a bit sticky, but overall very enjoyable...

12 oz bottle shared by csbosox. 14-2008 stamped on the label. Pour is a cloudy yellow, golden orange and straight juice orange. Smallish white head. Aroma of spicy earthiness, malt grain, citrus lemon. There is also a spicy component of cloves and white pepper. There is a bunch going on in the nose, and it all comes together quite nicely. Taste is wheat, malt grain, lemon / orange citrus, and the spiciness of the cloves. Nice yeast expression. Palate is medium body, though still light tasting with active carbonation. Nice one. Tangy zesty earthy after taste lingers. Really nice one, thanks for sharing this Chris.

Bottle from Captain Cougar. Love saison. Thanks a bunch Tom. Hazy orangey color with a spritely white head. Aroma of sour citrus and maybe funk. Near medium body with prickly carbonation. Flavor is a bit of grain, citrus, and I’d say clove. There’s peppery hot bits. Finishes dry and clean. Nice saison. Lovely ale.
