Commercial Description:
Scratch #15-2008 is our first collaborative beer in the Scratch series. We teamed up with St. Thomas Roasters of Linglestown to create a Double Espresso Oatmeal Stout. The double in the name refers to the espresso (not the alcohol). Scratch #15’s espresso blend is a medium city-type roast featuring beans from three continents. St. Thomas Roasters roasted and ground the beans; we used them in our hopback. At the end of the boil the hot wort passed through the espresso beans to give a lush coffee espresso nose and hints of coffee flavor. Chocolate, roasted and caramel malt flavors stand out, while the addition of oats gives Scratch #15 a full, round mouth feel. Galena and Kent Goldings hops are added to balance the overall flavor and not drive up the bitterness. The head retention diminishes quickly because of the oils from the espresso beans.

A nice aroma that is malty and chocolatey, the stout pours black with a tan head. The beer tastes more like just a bland stout, there is a nice chocolate presence but I did not find that the coffee came through all that much. The mouthfeel was a little lacking as well. It is a good beer, but I was a little underwhelmed on this much anticipated beer from Troegs.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells roasty and sweet. Tastes roasty and sweet with some chocolate hints as the beer warms. Rich, textured malt profile.

Bottle in trade from JB175. Thanks! Pours dark brown to black with medium lived creamy tan head. Smell is roasty, with some coffee and creamy notes. Taste is lightly charred malt and a touch of coffee and fairly bittered from the dark malt or hops. Tastes more and more strongly of coffee as I drink it. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Pretty solid beer.

Darker brown in color with a bold, roasty, coffee-heavy aroma. Flavor has a nice amount of coffee and a hefty roast to it with hints of chocolate and malty sweetness. Nice finish - solid coffee stout.

Bottle: pours a dark brown with a thin tan head, aroma of coffee and chocolate, taste is malty, coffee, bitter, lighter body than I like to have in a stout. Still, solid stuff...would be nice if Troegs made this one regularly.

Pours a deep deep brown with a caramel head with moderate lacing.... Smells of bitter chocolate and coffee... Taste as it smell with a lingering bitterness... Finishes medium bodied...
