COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In honor of Oktoberfest, we give you Scratch #23-2009, Kellar Fest. This unfiltered lager features all German malts and noble hops. Fermented with the Augustinerbrau yeast strain, Kellar Fest is a blend of Bohemian Pils, Munich and Vienna malts. The Magnum hops provide a crisp bitterness and the Hallertau noble hops impart a slight earthy taste. Kellar Fest finishes crisp and dry with hints of fruit. Grab a lamb handle and savor this Kellar Fest.

Had a glass at Barcade, poured from the bottle. Quite good. Exactly what I would expect from an Old World malty beer. Sweet, with strong caramel and maple syrup notes. The ample and diverse malt presence adds to the complexity. Rich and full.

Bottle from JW77. Amber pour. caramel malt and light hops on the nose. Flavor is light and somewhat bland. Caramel malt and bready notes are most noticeable.

Deep copper pour with off-white head. Nose is earthy caramel malt, nuts, slight rauch, a Wheaties-like nose and taste, with a heavy malt flavor, and some earthy and fairly assertive late hops.

Bottled. Poured most-assuredly peachy golden with a short cap of off-white head.. nice color to it. The aroma picked up a lovely array of fresh bread, lemon zest, earth, and white peppery yeast with a pinch of residual honey and floral character behind.. don’t think I’ve had anything like it. The flavor found crisp pale and bready malts at the core.. white pepper, cloves, and lemon zest surrounded.. earth and vanilla impressions from the yeast on the back.. thankfully long finish. Light-medium bodied and crisp on the palate.. tart, well-balanced, and memorable.. surprisingly good!

12 ounce bottle 2009 edition. Pours a cloudy orange hue with a small white head. The aroma is sweet honey and malts. A nice crisp flavor; spicy hops, oranges, honey, sweet dry malts. Enjoyable.

Bottle, wow scratch this from the scratch series, probably my least favorite so far, and i’ve been rather diligent in obtaining these releases. Pours an orange body with a copper white head. Dull malty caramel, and then this rush of grain seems to steer this ale to a place i’d rather not venture. Hay, grain, weak earth tones and apple ish wheat notes. Pass.

Lightly hazy, dark amber with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, nuts, toast, citrus, and light floral hops. Taste of caramel malts, nuts, light roast, toasted malts, and subtle hop presence in the finish.

Reviewed from notes. Pours a moderate orange copper color with a bit of browner darkness. A bit of an off white head with a bit of lace rings on the way down my pilsner glass. THe nose brings forward some moderate sweetness as well as some light hops. The dominant characteristics are definitely sweet caramel and a bit of bread. The taste is mild hops along with bread, caramel, and toffee. Good body and carbonation. Nothing terribly unique about this brew, just an average marzen. I prefer when they stretch styles with these brews. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-24-2010
