COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Scratch 27 begins a new fold in the Scratch series. For the next several batches individual Troegs brewers will create recipes of their choice. First up, The Ticeman had a hankering for a sweet stout, so the Troegs brothers and all the brewers met with Scharffen Berger Chocolate Company engineers to eat ridiculous amounts of cocoa nibs and chocolates over a few pints of beer. This collaboration resulted in the delivery of a special blend of cocoa nibs that were added during the boiling process. In addition to the nibs, lactose was added at the end of the boil to give a little sweetness in the body. The addition of Galena and Simcoe hops lends a subtle fruity balance. After primary fermentation, the beer was aged for three weeks on a blend of cocoa nibs and Ugandan vanilla beans. Dubbed Cocaoabunga, this unfiltered beer has a pleasant cocoa aroma, a subtle sweetness in the mouthfeel, a full-bodied flavor, and hints of vanilla. Enjoy!

A damn fine beer, I would drink it until my liver gave way. Nothing offensive at all, just beer bliss. Would get again fo sho. Style says sweet stout, tasted like what a good RIS should taste like. Great nose similar to KBS, but without the bourbon, nice full mouthfeel, roasty, delicious

Thanks to thirdeye11 for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a very dark red to black color with an off-white head. The aroma is roasted malt with some chocolate. The flavor is dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malt, caramel and some smoke. The smoke was unexpected since I didn’t get it in the flavor, but complimented the other flavors nicely. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Live rate during Sharks/Hawks game. Pours burnt umber w 2f oth. Nose is roasty toasty dark patent malt, raisins, hops, dark choc, rauch, coffee. Tastes sweet, extremely dark caco nibby and dark chocy, with a rich palate, tons of malt, and a finishing dryness that belies the initlal sweetness, and a lot of hops.

A: The pour is a dark brown color with some nice ruby red highlights and a thin tan head. S: The nose is highly chocolatey with some nice roast malt character. Not a lot going on, but quite nice. T: This beer really lives up to its name: there’s tons of sweet, milk chocolate along with some additional milk on top of that. There’s a light roastiness, but the chocolate is really front and center. M: The beer is smooth on the tongue with a medium body, but perhaps a bit thin on the body. D: This was a fantastic beer. While it was sweet, it was not in the sugary, syrupy sense. A real easy drinking sweet stout.
