COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Starting with a blend of pale malt and wheat along with honey malt – a pale Canadian barley with a distinctive sweet finish – Scratch #33 includes orange peel, coriander, elderflower and honey bush for a subtle fruit balance that complements the pepper zest of Saison du Pont yeast. Following the boil, the wort passed through our hopback (filled with spices) and then began a rapid ferment at a higher than typical temperature for an ale yeast. Following fermentation, Scratch #33 was bottle-conditioned with Westmalle yeast and warm-aged for two weeks to create a vibrant carbonation with an effervescent finish.

12oz bottle thanks to wunderbeer or brewerdan, can’t remember. Dark hazy orange color. Smells like pepper and citrus. Taste is spicy and yeasty. This is not bad at all but I’m not sure I’d ask for another one. Still, I was quite glad to have the opportunity to try this beer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 02-15-2011 02:32:03

Bottled. A murky amber beer with a huge off-white head. The aroma has notes of hops and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, hops, and peaches, leading to a dry finish.

Bottled. Unclear golden with a lively, frothy but quickly disintegrating white head. Very yeasty aroma with notes of yeast, pepper, edelflower, light sulphur, a subbtle berriness. Sweet flavor, sulphur, flowery, peppery finish. Not bad. A tad too sweet to scratch my back again.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours a cloudy amber with a lively white head. Yeasty and very spicy aroma - as in fennel or thyme? Medium body, heavy carbonation, very fruity, some yeast, loads of fruit and again spice. No real bitterness. Interesting. 150812

Bottle courtesy of Chaney. Thanks Brandon! A: This saison is a very hazy yellow color. The head is medium-sized and comprised of white bubbles. A bit of spotty lacing can be found at random points on the glass. S: The aroma consists of bread, yeast, biscuits, herbs, flowers. It smells rather sweet, as well. T: A fairly complex brew, as is typical of saisons in general, I found scratch beer #33 to be a bit too on the sweet side for my liking. I found this to be distracting and detract from several other flavors this beer has to offer. I especially enjoyed the pleasant taste of herbal tea, floral notes, and orange. M: Decent feel, medium carbonation. D: While this isn’t a bad brew, it is certainly not in the same league as the great Belgian saisons. It was fun to try.

12oz bottle thanks to mora2000. Dull golden pour with a small amount of white head. Aroma is funky with citrus and floral hops. Flavor is funky and buttery with more citrus and spice.
