Starting with a blend of pale malt and wheat along with honey malt – a pale Canadian barley with a distinctive sweet finish – Scratch #33 includes orange peel, coriander, elderflower and honey bush for a subtle fruit balance that complements the pepper zest of Saison du Pont yeast. Following the boil, the wort passed through our hopback (filled with spices) and then began a rapid ferment at a higher than typical temperature for an ale yeast. Following fermentation, Scratch #33 was bottle-conditioned with Westmalle yeast and warm-aged for two weeks to create a vibrant carbonation with an effervescent finish.

Belgian yeasty phenols, clove, fruits, sweet malt. taste is dry but sweet. light bodied. strangely dark for a saison. slightly tart finish. Tasty saison.

Bottle. Slightly hazy pumpkin colored pour, tons of frothy carbonation and an aroma of sweet honey. Flavor is pleasantly malty and full of peppery clover, herbs and finished with a little sweet banana lingering on the aftertaste. Very good!

12oz bottle thanks to StormKing47. Pours a brilliant clear golden color with a large lasting white head and thick sticky lacing. Very nice aroma, Belgian aroma with slight pepperiness and funk. The flavor is nice and peppery, slightly funky, with pale malt and floral hops. Medium body with high carbonation. Solid for the style, or at least for an American version.

Picked up a six at the brewery last weekend while visiting Eileen. Disappointing. Seemed a little too dark in color and didn’t have that peppery character from the yeast. Not a bad beer, but kind of missed the mark on the saison style, IMO.

Shared by Turdferguson. Pours a murky amber orange with a dense and creamy two finger sandstone head. Nose is yeasty with lots of isoamyl acetate and mandarin orange flesh and notes of candied . Flavor is zesty with a mild spice and definitive yeast presence. A bit more sweetness and body than I expect in a saison but still interesting.

Bottle from Sean9689. Thanks! Pours a rather dark orange/reddish amber with a small white head. Seems way to opaque for the style, but the head is very dense and steady and the body seems to be on point. Nose is an one-headed beast--very yeasty, coriander, orange peel. Missing that light hop balance that some of the better examples of the style so subtley executed. Nice mouthfeel and a pretty solid brew overall.

Courtesy of northernbrews. Hazy/murky amber, minimal head. Aroma dominated by a vegetal character I can’t pinpoint. Flavor much the same, vegetal, with some residual sweetness. Mouthfeel, flat, oily. nothing special.

Bottle: The aroma consists of apple, yeast, floral notes, and a touch of pepper. It pours a cloudy dull orange with a half inch off-white head with decent retention. The flavor starts lightly sweet with yeast and honey. The finish has notes of pepper, citrus, and a hint of lemon. Light-medium bodied with mild carbonation.

Bottle. Spicy, orange and hop aroma. Hazy golden amber body with tall head. Flavor is sweet and filled with orange, wheat and malts. Subtle yeast and hop flavor. More like a hef than a saison, Tasty though

Bottle poured a clear amber with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, spice, fruittiness and light yeast. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, spice and a hint of fruittiness with a smooth lingering spiced finish.
