COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our second foray into the white ale world comes with a little less and a little more from our first endeavor. We’ve reduced the gravity a bit to lower the ABV but dramatically increased the pepper and coriander, as well as adding locally-grown, organic unmalted winter wheat. The coriander, sweet and bitter orange peel, black pepper and star anise were added to the hopback to intensify these diverse flavors. With a dense haze from the unmalted wheat and a foamy white head, Scratch #47 incorporates citrus and spicy aroma notes with a hint of licorice from the star anise. The spices are offset by a doughy taste and the Lachouffe yeast gives a cidery finish. Enjoy!

Bottle from PUB’N. Pours turbid morning urine yellow with 2-finger white head. The head is frothy and loud, and says to me, "Scratch this, punk." Nose is huge limey grassy citrus, Saazy hops, coriander, orange zest, black pepper. Tastes very limey citric, yeasty spicy, with big coriander and I dare say cilantro, and a complex finish. I’m at my wits end as to why this wit isn’t wit a bigger score.

Bottle. Candied clove aroma. Hazy yellow with thin lasting head. Flavor is sweet, crisp and dry. Cloves and yeast are dominate, with hints of coriander, orange, pepper and anise. Well balanced.

12oz bottle thanks to orangesol on BA. I love the cheesesteak reference in the codename - "Wit (or Witout) Two." Dammit, I miss Pennsylvania. Why did I marry a California woman? Hazy yellow in color with a one-finger white head that has average retention. Nice wheaty and spicy aroma with lots of clove and coriander. Some banana and citrus as well. On the flavor, this is one of the more clove-heavy beers I’ve ever had. It’s also got coriander and cinnamon stick notes, with a sweet and somewhat fruity finish. Medium-light bodied and easy drinking with smooth carbonation. A flavorful and enjoyable ale overall.

Growler from Big Z Beverage. Pours a cloudy light orange with a rim of white head. Aroma of bready malt, lots of bitter melon rind and bitter spices, clove, a hint of sweet orange. Flavor also features many spices, pepper, lemon,. Belgian yeast. Pretty tasty wit beer! 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)

Growler. Aroma of subtle peppery tones, soft lemon, and bready/crackery malt. Pretty dry. Big focus on the malt for me rather than the esters/yeasty notes, though more continued to pop up here and there. Solid beer.

12 oz. bottle from michael-pollack- thanks again, Pollack! Pours a semi-cloudy yellow golden color with a finger-thick fizzy white head. Aroma of lemon citrus, wheat, coriander, pale malts, orange peel, and a bit of soap. Flavor follows suit, with herbal hops, lemon-lime citrus, pale and sweet malts, coriander, wheat, candi sugar, and bread. Light-medium bodied, with soft carbonation and a smooth, citrusy, bready mouthfeel. Nice wit.

Bottle courtesy of GandGKevin from Grape and Gourmet. Thanks Kevin! Hazed gold with a medium white head. Strong citrus and yeast in the aroma along with soft spice, bubblegum and wheat. Taste is big banana and bubblegum with wheat notes, citrus, yeast, soft spice and sweet malt. Body is light and refreshing with a medium bubbly carbonation. Touch of peppery spice towards the finish along with dusty yeast, wheat notes, softer citrus, banana, light bubblegum, and sweet malt.

Bottled. Poured hazy, pale golden with a dense whitish head. The aroma picked up tangy white pepper, coriander, and orange zest over soft bready malts.. nice hint of anise on the back of the nose.. really well done. The flavor found bready and red wheaty notes at the core.. coriander, white pepper, and some definite LaChouffe yeast around.. well-carbonated and tangy on the spicy finish, along with orange zest and just a faint hit of anise. Lighter-bodied with a bit too much carbonation on the palate.. good brew.
