COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Enjoy this as a token of our appreciation. With the demise of Tröegs Oatmeal Stout, this long-forgotten recipe serves as an inspiration and a heartfelt thanks to our faithful stout fans.

What’s special here? We start with a seductive malty sweetness, combine it with hints of chocolate and roasted flavors and round out the texture and taste with a healthy helping of oats. A three-hop blend brings perfect balance to the sweet malt adding a dry finish to this big beer.

Bottle: Dark brown with a large, creamy tan head. Thick sheets of lacing. Soft cocoa and roasty notes arise. Light coffee. Flavor is smooth and roasty with a light bit of bittersweet chocolate in the tail. Barely a hint of oats. Sweet and creamy there is this little bit of vanilla that I am really liking. Thanks to The_Epeeist for this trade gem.

Bottle courtesy of kramer17801. Thanks!
Pours black with some light getting through and a lasting tan head. Smell is faintly roasty, but not getting much of anything in the nose surprisingly. Taste is roasty, sweetness, cocoa powder, is generously bittered and shows a bit too much alcohol. Somewhat silky body, and light to moderate carbonation. This was okay overall, but not a favorite of mine.

UPDATED: JUN 30, 2008 A strong ABV oatmeal stout that is mostly bitter, yet still secondary malted. Full mouthfeel black with odest white head. Some chocolate and coffee, wll drinkable. Maybe not the best oatmeal stout I have tried, but a good one.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body topped by a thin, wispy, ivory-colored head. Smell: Somewhat meager aroma of dark malts, cocoa powder, and dark fruits. Taste: Roasted dark malts team up with dark fruits and deliver a mild sweetness. Taste of bittersweet chocolate. Smoked mint. Roasty, warming finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Slight creaminess to the mouthfeel. Drinkability: Decent enough for a fun, one-time experiment by the brewery. I paired the writing of this review with a caprese sandwich, which, while not a beer, and instead being a delightful sandwich with mozzarella, tomato, basil, and balsamic viniagrette, was quite good.

Thanks to GandGKevin. 120z bottle. Pours dark brown in color with thin brown head. Aroma sweet, chocolate and roasted malt. Taste bitter, dark chocolate and roasted malt, with bitter finish.

Light brown color not too much head. Caramel in the aroma. Sweet in the taste with alcohol. Missing something especially for the style. Not much hops there at all. Residual sweetness.
