4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Transfer from BA reviewed on 2-9-12 -
Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice
Appearance – A deep copper color which had a thin head upon being served. The head dissipated fast giving a moderate level of lacing.
Smell – Fresh piney aromas are the most potent and are prevalent throughout the nose. There is a bit of maltiness that is detected in the middle of the aroma followed up by citrusy hops toward the end.
Taste – While the pine is quite heavy throughout the aroma, it largely absent in the beginning of the taste. A bready maltiness is the first detected with an ever so slight brown sugar flavor. The hops then enter the picture, somewhat subtle at first, with mostly just pine, but then they come in and take over the show. Big flavors of pine mixed with some citrus and earthy notes.
Mouthfeel – The body is thick and chewy with a more subtle level of carbonation. A bit of oiliness comes into the mouthfeel toward the end, in some ways complementing the nice hop flavor that comes toward the end of the taste. Overall rather soothing and smooth for the style.
Overall – I rather enjoyed this double IPA. It had a nice hop kick with some good body and mouthfeel balance.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Breukelen Bier Merchants a few months ago for a a Troegs event. An orange beer with moderate head and lace. Aroma is orange and mango. Flavor is mostly bitter sweet orange. Palate starts soapy then goes moderately dry. Pretty good IPA though didn’t seem to have the heft of a double.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle. amber in color. solid tan head. hop aroma that seems to have faded. flavor was more on the malty side than hoppy. i think i need to try a fresher version of this in the future and re-rate, flavors weren’t reminiscent of the recipe..

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Jason - thanks! Dark amber pour with a small but frothy off-white head. Aroma is resinous pine and thick, sweet malt. No hop bitterness detectable. Taste is pine and medium bitterness up front followed by sweet, dense malt that suggests figs, caramel, and spicy dough. Even and coating mouthfeel. If I were to review this beer from the perspective of what I want in a IIPA it is a fail as it is way too malt heavy and the hops presence is laughable . . . but the beer is well made and I’m enjoying the heavy malt presence with its nuances and the contrasting pine and bitterness. Pretty much a lightly hopped strong ale but it works for me.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
This poured a lgihter amber color with a white head. Aroma was lots and lots of citrus, light pine and some grainy and caramel malt. Flavor was fairly bitter, nice hops taste, and balanced by some malt sweetness. Definitely not my favorite DIPA, but it was still pretty good.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft at Varga, tapped the keg, strong hops with more mild aftertaste, not much bite, tea-like, long, heavy head retention

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours copper amber translucent with a tan head. The aroma is light fruity hops, citrus mostly. The flavor is hoppy and malty, it is probably about 3 months old now with a good crisp smooth body.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle. Rating #21. Dark amber with an orange glow and a small off-white head. Not a bad aroma, picking up a little sweet citrus and a bit of caramel malt. More sweetness in the flavor, above average bitterness and more grapefruit in the finish. Nice. (2263)

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Craft Ale. Pours hazy coppery with 1-finger eggshell head. Nose is orange marmalade, spicy peppery, piney hops. Tastes rich, with a big caramel malt flavor to match the piney, peppery, tangeriney and hop flavors.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Churchkey. Served in a snifter.
Pours a nice amber color with a good white head and a bit of lacing. The nose carries some fresh pine needles and a bit of citrus plus a bit of bready malt in the background. Flavor has a good dose of hops and fairly-prominent malt presence. Not as hoppy or as great as Nugget Nectar. Medium body with a semi-dry finish and nice bitterness. PRetty good.
