COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Export Lager features a single stage decoction—a first for Tröegs Brewery. After combining barley and water we transfer a portion of the mash to the brew kettle for a quick boil. The heated mash is then returned to the mash kettle and the brewing process continues. This process deepens the malt character and adds a subtle toffee backbone to this delicious lager.

We’ve added Magnum hops for bittering and Czech Saaz hops for aroma to create a classic European Noble hop flavor.

Scratch #6-2007 is unfiltered, so there will be a slight haze to the beer.

A: The beer pours a cloudy golden yellow with a small white head. S: Surprisingly decent nose. Sweet malts and pale breads dominate. There’s a fair amount of citrus character and some light fruitiness to it as well. T: Sort of watered down and bland. Bready malts with a hint of cardboard, very little bitterness or hop flavor. A little bit of citrus to it and some sweetness, maybe sugar? M: Light in body with a medium carbonation. O: Not sure what I could really expect from a 4 year old Dortmunder lager, but this was probably about it.

12oz bottle. Poured a medium an hazy yellow color with a larger sized white head. As soon as I popped this one open, I was greeted with a strong grainy almost vegetable aroma. Skunky and sweaty. Tastes of grains, some sweetness, and citrus. A style I’m not crazy about, but this one was drinkable...

Draft sample at Troegs. The first scratch beer that doesn’t do much for me. It has an almost funky sour grain husk nose, but it’s fresh, with fresh corn, potatoes and other starchy scents. Rough and heavy on the tongue but not thick, it’s moderately bitter and dry, turning pasty in the finish, with a corase, almost lactic quality, and a general flavor of potato and corn. Strange. Could it be that I just don’t like dortmunder at all? I’m beginning to suspect something like that.

Bottle from Capone’s. Semi turbid deep gold pour with off-white head. Aroma of fruity yeast, dry floral hopcitrus, mild candi sugary malt. Tastes bready, pale malty, with hopcitrus, a touch of rye notes, and some finishing florals.

Bottled. Poured hazy brighter golden with some chunkage floating around in there.. short white head. The aroma picked up citrus notes first and foremost with sour and spiciness evident.. I couldn’t pick out much of the malt bill, but honey came through. The flavor opened with tangy orange zest and spicy floral bitterness, with sourdough bread and a pinch of honey sweetness rolling into the middle.. spicy and brighter throughout, which gave it a refreshing feel on the finish. Lighter-bodied with medium, rolling carbonation across the palate.. OK feel, but a bit too sharp and a rather tacky at the end.

Pours amber with a nice white head. Smells of citrus, apples, some honey, tea. Tastes of dry malt, biscuits, some citrussy hints, touches of pepper, some fading bitterness at the end. Enjoyable.

Bottle from Adrian and served in a standard pint glass: Pours a hazy golden hue with a nice lasting frothy head and left okay lace upon the glassware. The aroma has notes of bready continental malts, grassy and herbal hops (can notice the Saaz), slight pear and honey esters. The taste starts with a moderate level of sweet grains and supported by a light handed herbal bitterness with just a touch of fruity twang in the background. A touch sweeter than I would like for the genre but all in all a easy drinking and refreshing bier. More favorful than many Dorts likely due to being unflitered.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden body with an off white head. Big floral notes with a nice citric but dry bitterness. Cereal and bready and some light sweet malt, grain and some light dried fruit, apple. good offering.

Poured a hazy golden color with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of corn, bready malts, toffee, and citrus. Taste of citrus, corn, light toffee, metal and toasted dough, and a bitter, hoppy finish. Certainly my least favorite scratch, and possibly my least favorite Tröegs so far.
