Very good IPA. The malts/hop balance was solid, but the hops are great. Enjoyed the earthy tones and slight grapefruitiness taste.

bottle from Capone’s. Pour charcoal with brown hew with some head that lingers around the edge of the glass. nose is sweet with aldehydes and mild esters , roasted broown malt, slight hops. first sip is similar with more coco, coffee, and lik chocolate. finish is blance of most od tnee developed flavors.

Served straight from a firkin at the brewery. This one was dry hopped with simcoe. A fitting tribute to a really good guy, RIP Danny. A - Pours deep, dark brown bordering on black with a creamy one and a half finger tall khaki colored head leaving thin webs of lace down most of the glass. S - Smells of dark roasted malt, pungent citric hops, dulled citric fruit, and some fresh cut pine. It really does smell like a darker nugget nectar. T - Starts off with quite a bit of dark roast quickly giving way to hints of fresh citric fruit and plenty of bitter citric hops. Unlike some examples I have had from the style, the dark side of this beer blends well with the hoppy side, leaving an easy drinking black ale. Finish is a mix of dark roast and lingering hop bitterness, leaving the palate dried long after the finish. M - Big body with a really nice creamy feel with a decent amount of carbonation, growing still in the glass as most casks do. The booze is there but it never gets in the way, helping to make this one very easy to drink. O - My first glass wasn’t as good as the second. Second glass had more assertive hop presence and a little less roast, very nice balance. I have never liked this style but this one works fairly well. Another solid offering from the Scratch series.

Bottle poured a dark cola with a large tan long lasting head and notable lacing. Aroma is filled with pine, resiny hops, and hints of roasted caramel malt and citrus. First sip begins with big hop flavor followed by caramel malt, mollases, and citrus before a smooth finish. Very drinkable black IPA.

I enjoyed this beer a lot. Starting out at first sit it took some getting used to. But after the glass was empty I had a much better respect for it. If you happen to be passing by Hershey PA stop by Troegs and get a tall boy of this one! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours deep black with a small frothy head that lingers for only a bit. Aroma of hops and a bit of coffee and caramel. Taste is hoppy and a bit bitter, a little bit of sweetness up front. Mouthfeel is slightly watery. Overall one of the nicest Black IPAs I've had. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
