A collaboration between beer writer Lew Bryson and brewer Jeff Musselman, Scratch #68-2012 has been brewed specifically for Philly Beer Week. Lew chose to brew a Dortmunder Lager as he loves to drink session beers as much as he loves to write about them. Staying true to style, Zwickel Licker delivers a delicate barley field aroma with an earthy bitterness. At 5.4% ABV and 23 IBUs this beer deserves to be consumed outdoors while wearing lederhosen.

Draft at Drafting Room. Pours hazy gold with white clingy head. Nose is floral hops, pale malt, yeasty notes. Tastes as it smells, with a crisp finish.

Draft sample. Very good flavorful farmhouse style. Yeast is not too dominate as some spicy tones come through. Recommend this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear gold with a medium white head...lively looking...nice retention. Aroma has light fruitiness and hay...mild grassiness. Flavor follows suit...fruitiness almost tastes like a blegian blond...grassy/earthy bitterness. Mouthfeel is full and the finish is fruity/bitter.

Served on-tap at the brewery. A - Pours clear golden yellow with a decent one finger tall white head leaving spotty rings of lace down parts of the glass. S - Smells of sweet caramel malt, grassy hops, light spice and a bit of bready yeast at the end of each sniff. A bit dull really but its not a big deal. T - Starts off with some caramel malt sweetness slowly giving way to hints of bready yeast, light spice and some grassy hops. It has some chewiness to it but nothing too over the top thankfully. Finish is a mix of light sweetness and some hop bitterness, not lingering on the pallet for very long. M - Medium-Light body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Crisp feel with just enough flavor to keep me interested, very easy to drink. O - I have no explanation how this one lost to Biere de Grouch. That beer may have a bit more wow factor with the added spice but I think this one is a more complete beer. Glad I got to try these three without having to drive the whole way to Philly.
